I can't believe the GOP is still playing the tune that giving tax breaks to this countries very rich will somehow help the middle class. Didn't we do this during the Bush administration and look where we are. I don't think either the GOP or the Democrats could have helped us with the baggage Bush left behind.

The biggest problem we have is a congress that is unwilling to think about what is good for all of us and put thier own special interest first. The tea party think they are right, the GOP conversatives think they have all the answers and the Democrats think they have the perfect plan. Until all of our congressman realize they have to work together nothing is going to be done. The President can't do much without their help. He can't be blamed for all our problems.

In Response to Re: GOP Conventional Wisdom - What's Happening in Tampa : The president does not worry about sending jobs overseas, he just sends the money that the citizens in this country have worked hard for.  He sends billions and billions of dollars to Brazil for oil wells.  He sends billions and billions of dollars to other countries for support, when it just goes to the leaders of those country to get wealthy on and the people of those countries are still starving.  We cannot be the worlds policeman.  We need a president that will take care of this country and not turn it over to the muslim countries, like Obama is doing.

No, we need a President who will support the middle class, and not destroy medicare.  Romeny and Ryan are for one thing only, cut mediare, so they can give large tax cuts to the rich.  After destroying the Massachusetts budget, I don't want Romney destroying this country.  He is like doctor Jeckle and Mr. Hide.  He changes his mind after every statement he makes, when questioned by the media.  He can't change his mind once he comits us to war, if he became Presdient.  Does not work that way running a country.

The "Baggage" Bush left behind was driven and delivered by the Democrat Congress. "Bush" didnt create the gridlock that created the as you liberals all say "Mess". The real "Mess" is when a bunch of CNN informed Liberals all ran to the Polls and pulled the lever for this community organizer thug from Chicago. And his gangsters Rahm, Vallerie, and all the appointed czars that came with the donations they reaised to have him elected. And the mikkions of dollars he put back in George Soros's pocket for getting him elected by channeling TAX money into the support of Petrobras the Brazillian run Petroleum Drilling venture off of their coast. Oh! but we're not allowed to Drill its "Bad for the Enviroment" what Brazil's enviroment isn't OUR enviroment? Odd. So all the tree hugging Liberal Democrat VOTERS who thought the young first Black Predisent would be a cute story to tell the great Grandchildren turned out to be lets set them down and tell them how stupid Great grandmother and I were for "Experimenting" rather VOTING for Barack Hussein Obama the Community Organizer from Chicago because he had a "Nice Smile". Go to Bingo the next election its the same way you people Vote.

I don't trust either party on the issue of Medicare.  Neither party talks about the hard facts:

1. A person with "advantage" coverage can die waiting for a procedure to be approved.

2. A person with conventional Medicare can go broke paying the 20% not covered, and the huge hospital deductibles.  A supplemental plan is essential and they are expenisve.  None of the hack politicans talk about this.

3. Effective in 2013 reimbursements to doctors, etc, will be cut further, to the point a senior often cannot find a doctor in a rural area that will accept Medicare patients, and it is an issue in some suburban areas as well.

4. Monthly premimums for Medicare are going up, but neither party talks about this either.

5. Is it true that those over 75 will be denied more expensive, life-saving procedures?  Rumors abound, but no facts are forthcoming.

6. No visibile effort is being made to reduce costs of medical services, rather it is a reduction in service for the country's senior citizens (other than retired Congressmen and presidents, etc.)

It seems seniors are being royally screwed over to help pay for so-called coverage for everyone, even citizens of Mexico.

They are all liars in both parties and I don't see AARP bringing forth the truth.

ObamaCare that already changed Medicare as we know it, transforming it literally into a death trap for seniors.

AARP representatives are getting more and more to the left, far to much for me.   It doesn't take much upstairs to figure it out.    Read comments on Romney and then on Obama.   How dare you bias people, that isn't what I thought AARP represented.    Just read articles on the last few months.   AARP is going to lose many in their existing audiance.   I am so disappointed in this organization!!!

It appears that you would have AARP represent your political ideology vs the best interest of its members regardless of the politics. If Romney and his proposed policies offered AARP members a better outcome  it would then be in your best interest to have AARP push for it.. This however in my informed opinion  is not the case with the Romney proposals on Medicare and medicaid.
Please think and investigate for yourself and seperate ideology from real facts.
Thank you AARP for your independent  investigation of the facts.

With all due respect, but The Investors Business Daily's primary agenda is to make profits for its readers, not provide the best healthcare for our money. Their writers and investors want to dismantle Medicare to give the green light to rich profits for the major Private Healthcare Compnaies, so their readers and investors can make big money investing in the healthcare companies that take over Medicare. So, they are going to criticize any plan Obama has  that saves Medicare and our lives in the interest of making $$$$$.
Sorry, but I dont want Private Healthcare companies making my life and death healthcare decisions, based on their profit margins.

Why is AARP supporting a cut of $716 billion from the Medicare Advantage program that seniors have paid into all their life so that those who paid little or nothing into Medicare will get health care under the Democratic Plan?
Posted by rlp34202

Before answering your question, you apparently need to be informed that the $716 billion is not a CUT, A cut would mean reductions in services in one form or another but there are NO REDUCTIONS in services. In fact, the Democratic Plan will add new needed services to Medicare and extend Medicare services for an additional 8 years. The GOP plan is what you and I and all Americans should be extremely worried about. Romney/Ryan plan will make deep cuts that will severely effect services and will result in Medicare to be broke and non-existent by 2016. On top of that, Romney/Ryan plan will include deep cuts in Medicaid.
Now to answer your question. Why is AARP supporting President Obama's Plan. Because we are Americans and realize that means looking out for our neighbor and others who can not do for themselves. Americans do not kick someone while they are down but help them up and get them on their feet again. You may have forgotten these American and Christian values but I have not. I suspect that you are a Fox New Watcher. Fox is not a News channel, they spread fear & hate not news.

The sad state of the GOP?

I grew up in a military family and that to us meant we voted Republican. I have not voted Republican since Reagan’s 1st term. Breaking Federal laws and shipping jobs overseas did not appeal to me. Reagan and Bush senior left America in a deep hole. My 1st Democratic vote went to Bill Clinton and I have not voted Republican since. Look at what Bush Jr. did to the USA, did you forget? Never Forget! Republicans almost let the USA fail. Like him or not, Barack Obama is the President of the United States of America. He is not just a man, he is the symbol and the top representative for America. The Republican majority Congress has blocked all progressive bills by using an unprecedented number of filibusters. At the expense of the American people, more jobs, better healthcare, and a brighter future for our children, Congress instead decided that making President Obama a one term President their number one priority. That’s not their job, that’s up to the people. Why does the GOP condone voter suppression spreading around the Red States? Why is the GOP attacking women’s rights and reducing healthcare for women. Why is it a GOP policy to protect the rich at all cost? Why is the GOP looking to go backwards rather than going forward? Is it because Barack Obama is black?

I've read many of the posts here and am very concerned about the talk about how ObamaCare is awful and how Obama is ruining our Medicare. After getting into the weeds of the issues, I discovered that the ACA (ObamaCare) is strengthing Medicare and extending it's solvency by eight years. For those of us in the donut hole, we will pay far less for our drugs now and the hole will eventully close. Additionally, the cuts to Medicare are found in the massive fraud, waist, and abuse that has proliferated in the existing system. It's not going to hurt our docs. My family doc is pleased with Obama's plan.

In my head, I know we all better pray Obama wins four more years. If you think the Romney plan won't effect those of us who are currently on Medicare, then take a closer look at the Ryan Budget. The insurance pools that us older folks are in will become full of the ailing and our Advantage Plans will need to raise our premiums. The result, we will pay more under Romney's plan.

I hear all the talk on the news stations who are reporting with bias toward their own candidates. AARP looks past all of that and looks for what plan will best help us seniors and disabled persons. I know ObamaCare seems scary right now but when you look at all the particulars, we are going to reap some big benefits as the insurance companies begin to insure most of the people in the nation. It's gonna lower the cost of our Advantage Plans, not increase them.
