I still miss David Brinkley and the way he anchored the national political conventions for NBC . . . he was a class act through and through, but you always had the idea that he had all the blowhards pegged just right.

And I think the politicians aren't as good as they used to be, either. George Romney, for example, had some courage that somehow didn't get passed on to Mitt.

Just my two bits.

But of course he wouldn't "self-identify" as a blowhard, now would he?

Just thinking we got hit with two that year.  Ike and Gustav.  Ike destroyed Galveston and flooded coastal Louisiana and Gustav hit us here in coastal  Louisiana flooding and wind damage. In Response to Re: GOP Conventional Wisdom - What's Happening in Tampa :

Well, I watched some of it on the tube yesterday, and this morning, and the 5 boys are indeed fine gentlemen, but, we are not electing them, and we are not voting for the best father. We are getting the warm and fuzzy Mitt Romney, and his family, and the goal is for us to like them so much we vote for him.
What? Is this a popu8larity contest?? And, everytime I hear his campaign staff say "everything he touches turns to gold" I could scream! Because he was a successful businessman, and outsourced jobs, does that prove in any way that he will be able to convince other American business leaders that they should create jobs here? How will he convince them that making a killing overseas , avoiding all our govt. regulations, and taking the money and running to an overseas bank account isn't the way to go??

We need someone who can offer business leaders a real incentive to invest in their own country!

Romney knows how to send our jobs to China and India for his own profit, now maybe he knows how to get those jobs back for our Nations profit. Response to Re: GOP Conventional Wisdom - What's Happening in Tampa:

I'm very curious to see which story line on Medicare is most convincing to voters. Will the Obama campaign win retirement-age and near retirement age by attacking Romney-Ryan over the news plans for Medicare? Or does Romney's contention that their plan ``saves'' Medicare in the long-term become the winning argument?

Good question, milliganglobe,
Both sides are trying to win votes by saying they will do what's right for medicare, so, who do we believe?

And, the real question is, who will get us out of debt and save the whole country? China is getting better and better, and we owe them quite a bit of money, don't we??

Georgie, Since you asked about who to believe regarding Medicare. Paul Ryan's dismantling of Medicare into a Voucher System has been called a  "Death Sentence " to our seniors and disabled, especially disabled children, by Independents in Congress. Paul Ryan's wife, Janna, has been a Private Healthcare Lobbyist for two of the largest Private healthcare providers (Cigna and Blue Cross/ Blue Shield) for years and I personally find this a huge conflict of interest. The fact that the Ryan's are profiting from dismantling Medicare is unethical to me. Who's best interest are the Ryan's considering ?
Cigna's Private Healthcare Co. CEO Wendell Potter, who recently retired and came clean, stated that Paul Ryan's Voucher System would give millions more to Private Healthcare CEO's and cost our Seniors and Disabled thousands more for similiar care.  Potter also said Ryan's plan will not keep up with inflation and seniors payments would keep going up and up.This is coming from a Private healthcare CEO, who was an insider while all these behind the door deals are being planned.
If elected, Romney has already agreed with Ryan's plan and will not start his Presidency fighting with the Ryan's and  Congressional Republican leaders Cantor and Boehner, so say goodbye to Medicare and hello to Mr. & Mrs. Ryan's Voucher Plan.
I'm an Independent and when it comes to saving Medicare and Social Security, I personally believe the Democrats and Independents will preserve both programs. Paul Ryan already tried to privatize Social Security under President Bush and Ryan will try again, If he's Vice President. I give President Bush credit for backing away from Ryan's Social Security Privatization attempt.  We all have our opinions and this is where my homework has led me.
Good luck in finding the  answer in your homework assignment and remember to research Non Partisan Sources( like the Congressional Budget Office ) to get the real facts. We are all in this together, regardless of your party preference.Response to Re: GOP Conventional Wisdom - What's Happening in Tampa:

I've been trying to place the lead guitarist in the house band. Now I've got it:
