In what has been described as a searing speech, President Barack Obama charged that the GOP budget would end Medicare "as we know it," and included GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney in his criticisms.

USA Today's The Oval: Obama Blasts Ryan, Romney, Republican Budget
President Obama issued a scathing attack on Mitt Romney and House Republicans today, saying they support a budget that is "a prescription for decline" and would gut such essential programs as Medicare (Jackson, 4/3).

The Hill's Healthwatch: Obama Sticks With Charge That Ryan Plan Would 'End Medicare'
President Obama made clear Tuesday that he's not about to soften his criticism of Republicans' Medicare proposals, charging again that the GOP plan would "end Medicare as we know it." ... He said Ryan's proposal would shift costs to seniors and that its subsidies would not keep pace with rising healthcare costs. Obama warned of "cherry-picking," saying private plans would peel off the healthiest seniors, making traditional Medicare more expensive and less competitive (Baker, 4/3).

Fox News: On Primary Day, Obama Lambastes GOP Budget Plan As 'Trojan Horse'
"The Republicans in Congress have doubled down," the president said in a 37-minute speech during an annual Associated Press luncheon at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel. "Their new budget makes (their) Contract with America look like the New Deal" (4/3).

Politico: Obama Attacks, Mocks Romney And Ryan Budget
President Barack Obama jumped fully into the 2012 race Tuesday, naming his likely Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, for the first time in an official presidential speech that accused the Republican establishment of embracing polices that threaten the middle class and basic economic fairness. ... Democrats have almost uniformly lined up against the Ryan plan, saying it would gut Medicare, student loan aid and medical research while handing generous tax breaks to the wealthy (Budoff Brown, 4/3).

Bloomberg/San Franciso Chronicle: Obama Criticizes Romney's Support of 'Radical' Republican Budget
President Barack Obama criticized Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney by name and mocked the former Massachusetts governor for describing as "marvelous" the U.S. House-passed budget that overhauls Medicare and cuts domestic programs while lowering taxes for high earners (Runningen and Nichols, 4/3).

CBS News Hotsheet: Obama: GOP Budget A "Trojan Horse"
The GOP budget plan, which Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan unveiled late last month, passed through the House of Representatives last week without a single Democratic vote. The legislation, which calls for steep spending limits and dramatic changes to Medicare, has almost no chance of passing through the Democratic-controlled Senate, but it has swiftly set up an ideological battle between the left and the right over budget priorities as the 2012 election nears. Mr. Obama said the idea that the GOP budget plan would effectively reduce the deficit was "laughable" (Madison, 4/3).

The Hill: Obama Attacks Ryan Budget As Effort To 'Impose A Radical Vision'
The Ryan budget ... aims to cut $5 trillion more than Obama's 2013 budget proposal and would create a "premium support" option for future Medicare recipients (Parnes, 4/3).

CNN: Obama Attacks GOP Budget Proposal
According to the administration officials, voters are likely to oppose the Ryan plan because it includes cuts to popular entitlement programs (Cohen, 4/3).

btw Ron Paul is AGAINST the Ryan's plan--as he is against anything that's not good for American people!

CNN conducted poll: whose policies favor middle class?

Ron Paul won with 52%, Obama had 40% and Romney was worst with 28%.
Who votes for him?

Part of the joke here, is that Obama is already cutting medicare since he cuts money from medicare to support a plan that will bankrupt America. He is also the one who gave tax breaks by cutting the social security tax. Me thinks there is something wrong with the president's thinking.

We need a balance, but it is not coming from the president, since we will all pay for the WELFARE state he is establishing.

Obamacare cuts $500 Billion from Medicare. It also sets up unelected panels that decide what medical treatments and diagnostics are to be used. Basically, medical care, especially for seniors will be rationed.

I cannot think of who said it, but when they were talking about current cuts to Medicare, a person replied that so far only Obama has done that. I know this is not the quote but it helps to point out how he is misleading us.

Hey, a welfare state here is better than welfare states of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan like W. and his buddy Cheney were doing.  If I remember correctly that is what got us in trouble in the first place. It wasn't taking care of our own.  That's the trouble with Republicans they think their biggest enemy are their own people for one reason or another.  As I said welfare hasn't gotten this country in trouble it was Wall Street corruption and the politicians that supported them.  Funny these Republicans never blame themselves.  They know what W. did but just don't mention his name anymore.  They know what Wall Street has done but deny any association with them but give them tax breaks etc.  But the real scapgoats are the poor, disabled and the elderly.  You see no one writes for them,  they can't afford to contribute to campaigns.  Easy targets, put all the blame to them.  Fits just right into the philosophy of the Tea Party that thrive on this type of hatred.

I do not support the tea party since they are too one sided on taxes. Why didn't you mention USSR and Nazi Germany because we are better than them also. The current administration inherited problems but he has made them worse. More people are poor, more unemployed. national debt is thru the roof.

Some of his current solutions are to cut social security tax to give people a tax break - what a moronic idea that was, as he did not have the senior citizens in mind when he did that but threw out money to the masses who did not realize what he was doing.

Now he has a health bill where he is going to steal from medicare to pay for a program which will cause even more debt and take from retirees who are on fixed incomes. This is another slight of hand where he takes from a group (old people) to pay for a program where he is trying to dictate to everyone what they might have.

They call them entitlement programs but medicare and social security are two programs where people were taxed to protect them in retirement, but this president is playing games with both. He is an arrogant person who is concerned about winning a presidency by buying his way into office. He can have his change back and based upon his performance I think it should be a couple of pennies which is all the change he is worth.

What does Nazi German and the USSR has to do with I wrote?  They were not around for Bush to make welfare states out of them. The only reason Obama cut taxes on anyone was at the insistence of the Republican lawmakers.  The only problem Obama has is trying to compromise with Republicans who want cuts in taxes and when the people object the Republicans blame it on him. You see Obama had no intentions of cutting taxes but at the insistence of the Republicans. If anyone doesn't like paying taxes or the people who they share this nation with they can always leave.  And it seems that a lot of these Rich Republicans are doing just that by taking their jobs over seas and hiding money in places like Island Nations.  Then they incite the poor ignorant tea party with propaganda to keep the hatred going while masking their real intentions.  Yes, if Obama had his way all Americans would have health care like Canada and the rest of the industrial world.  But the most richest and most powerful country in the world bows to the wishes of a corrupt few.

We cannot afford the type of health care he has proposed. I brought up those to other socialist nations, one Nazi and one communist, because it made as much sense as your bringing them up, Your further comment adds nothing more. You are still blaming Bush for everything in Obama's last term also, but you forgot to mention the price of gas.

Was it not Obama's idea to take away from social security and medicare, while he proposes a plan will bankrupt America. The first thing that needs to occur is to get medical costs under control. Part of his plan to make money was to get rid of abuses to save billions, yet I do not see any of that. I disagree with those who try to stop changes that would bring in more tax money, but I think much of that can be done by taking away loop holes that many abuse.

It is easy to become popular by promising everyone something for nothing, thank you Obama. It is a fool who believes it. It is a shame so many were mislead by him on his platform of change which is meaningless. Now that you know what he is doing do not be a fool and vote him into office for a second term. I am on Medicare and expect to be going on Social security in the near future and I do not want this man taking my money.

Careful what you say, one day you may have no money and see if a Republican will give you a hand.
