So my husband & I are part of the 47% according to Romney?? We are 77 & 67, my husband pay Federal taxes on his pension, we both pay Federal taxes on our Social Security, I still work part-time, commissioned, so I pay Federal taxes on my income, a small commercial building rental gives us income that we pay Federal taxes on.  Is this the free ride we're taking after a long life of work? How does he figure it?

Sounds like you pay taxes - so I guess you're in the 53% category ! Money mouth

Will our Medicare Premiums be increased under Obamacare?

I got an e-mail that said, incorporated in the Legislation is an increase each year. $104.20 in 2012, 120.20 in 2013 and 247.00 in 2014!  Further, these increases are being purposely delayed so as not to confuse the 2112 re-election campaing.

Anyone know of any such facts?

Thanks

There are no such "facts." That is one of the many chains of disinformation spread online about the health care law.The rumor has been de-bunked over and over again -- by sources as diverse as the Wall Street Journal to PolitiFact (several times) to Snope. The issue of affordable health care is complicated enough without being bogged down by deliberate fabrications.

Last night's debate between Joe Biden and Paul Ryan included a spirited segment about Medicare, Social Security and the health care law.

You can watch that segment or read the transcript from it here.

Did you get any more detail or clarity?  Any misrepresentations? Anything you agree or disagree with?

I am in full agreement with Gregg Mullins summary of this issue, especially the absolutely disingenuous editorial by Barry Rand. We can all recall how quick AARP came out in support of Obama care, and in fact was pointed out by Biden in the recent debate. Now, Rand seems concerned about whether doctors will leave the medicare system and seniors may no longer get adequate, If any, care through the system. The fact is Obamacare is taking $700B out of the system which was there for payment of providers. This means that physician rates reimbursed by Medicare will be arbitrarily set lower which will be the primary reason providers leave the system. THERE ARE NO SAVINGS IN HEALTH CARE COSTS TO MEDICARE. This was one of the big lies of Obamacare. For Rand to say AARP is not political is an insult to anyone with an ounce of sense, and therefore I concluded a long time ago that he could serve the organization much better by resigning.  In my opinion, the dysfunctionality of the current regime does not need further encouragement from AARP. For me, I am hoping we will put an end to this nonsense on November 6th.

Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season:
I just read  A. Barry Rand's editorial in the current bulletin.  Had to laugh out loud when he states AARP is "non-partisan".  This organization is so liberal I can hardly read most of your articles.  I know folks who won't become members because of your bias.  But they are like people who refuse to watch Fox News because they think they are so bias.  I am not that bad, I do attempt to watch other net works because I want to see both sides.  We have Democratic ads on our local radio station that are absolute lies concerning the Republican candidates and their views on Medicare and Social Security.  The Republicans want to improve the system, not eliminate it.  If that is not done, we won't have these in the future period.  And if the Democrats get elected, we won;t have the United State we have known in the past.  I suggest that AARP wake up and truly become a non-partisan organization that is fair and balanced not like MSNBC commentators such as Chris Matthews, Al sharpten, and Rachael what's her name.  Sincerely,  Gregg Mullins, Bonita Springs, FL

In Response to Election 2012 Debate Season:
Here's the schedule for the debates between the presidential and vice presidential candidates. October 3 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic : Domestic policy Moderator: Jim Lehrer, host of NewsHour on PBS Location: University of Denver, Denver   October 11 Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan Topic: Domestic and foreign policy Moderator: Martha Raddatz, ABC News chief foreign correspondent) Location: Centre College, Danville, Ky.   October 16 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic: Domestic and foreign in town meeting format Location: Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y. Moderator: Candy Crowley, CNN chief political correspondent   October 22 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic: Foreign policy Moderator: Bob Schieffer, host of Face the Nation on CBS Location: Lynn University, Boca Raton, Fla. All of the debates are scheduled for 9-10:30 p.m. ET. They are sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates , a nonprofit group founded in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties. Debates in Senate and House races have begun, but the future of Medicare and Social Security haven't been coming up very often. AARP is calling for much better results in the presidential debates. What questions about Medicare, Social Security and retirement security would YOU like candidates to answer? The issues got a lot of direct attention at the AARP Life@50+ member event in New Orleans. It wasn't a debate, but President Obama and GOP vice presidential candidate Raul Ryan talked about Medicare, Social Security, jobs and gridlock in Washington. A discussion about the event has started in the Politics - Current Events online group.

In Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season : It is unbelieveable that AARP supports ObamaCare.  Did they even ask their membership?  What did they read? What is their motivation?  My physician has told me point blank when and if ObamCare goes thru he will drop me as a patient using Medicare as he can't afford to.Posted by rsalty

I totally agree.  As an AARP member, I do not support ObamaCare.  It is complete intrusion into private health care decisions.  The government has way overreached their influence.  ObamaCare will cause hopitals to close and insurance rates to increase.  Do not let this president continue government's assalt on our liberties.

One bit of misinformation from the Biden/Ryan debate that stood out in my mind didn't originate with the debaters.

It came from moderator Martha Raddatz.

What do you think?
