In presidential debate #1, Obama and Romney offer their positions on the health care law / Obamacare.

Did you learn anything new?

In presidential debate #1, Obama and Romney touched on the issue of Medicaid. You can watch an excerpt of that here.

They didn't get into what an important role Medicaid plays for millions of older Americans.

What was your takeaway from Obama and Romney's exchange on this isue?

As a member of AARP, I was disappointed in Obama using them or me as a member for the fact in support him!  I do not support him!  And though it has been stated in Fox News this morning that AARP doesn't get involved in politics - Ha!!! And they didn't appreciate their name being used.  But you could tell from the National convention in New Orleans that AARP did support Obama and his ObamaCare!    I resent this!

Well that makes two of us at least! To think that AARP does not have a stake in the game is just pure hogwash. They do support ObamCare which I cannot wait for it to get repealed!!

It is unbelieveable that AARP supports ObamaCare.  Did they even ask their membership?  What did they read? What is their motivation?  My physician has told me point blank when and if ObamCare goes thru he will drop me as a patient using Medicare as he can't afford to.Posted by rsalty

As a retired M.D., and ex-pat living on Pitcairn Island, it's sad to see how misled you oldies in America are. As if the propaganda flowing down the slopes of BS Mountain (Foxnews) was anything but total lies and misinformation....

I doubt that most Americans can tell the that this Romney guy is just a creepy rich boy that wants to be POTUS so he can ride around in a cool airplane and give out more US money to hos rich friends.

Then you've got Obama who really is the poster boy for the American dream of "Work hard, be anything you strive to be" who is constantly attacked by the petty ignorant right wing media...why ? It's not any secret that it's really just good old race hate. Glad to be so far away, here where Fletcher Christian escaped the torment of British Naval tyranny. By the way, we have single payer health care for all, right here in tiny Pitcairn!

Here's an excerpt about Debate #1, the health care law and Medicare from an interesting post by Phil Galewitz on Capsules, the Kaiser Health News blog:

More than two and a half years after he signed the most far reaching health care legislation into law, President Barack Obama showed in his Wednesday debate with Mitt Romney that explaining the law is still no easy job.

“It’s a great law and complex and complicated … but there is a continuing job to communicate how it works,” Don Berwick, Obama’s former administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said Thursday after a health briefing at the Newseum in Washington.

Berwick was not critical of the president’s performance but said it was good there are still two more debates this month.

Berwick said Obama faces challenges to explain the law accurately when Romney repeatedly falsely asserts that they Affordable Care Act will take away $716 billion from Medicare beneficiaries. The law reduces the growth in funding to the program partly because the hospital industry agreed to cuts because they would have fewer uninsured patients after 2014. Other cuts would come from reducing funding to Medicare Advantage health plans.

Watched the debate, where was the real Romney?  Almost everything he said didn't agree with what he and Ryan have said on other occasions.

Obama didn't look too impressive, but at least he didn't all of a sudden change his ideas!
