News reports say that Obama and Romeny have been spending hours and hours preparing for these debates. Obama is downplaying his debate abilities but I'm sure he'll come out firing both barrels. I'll be front and center in my living room with a bowl of popcorn. It's sure to be enlightening -- and good entertainment.

If Obama comes off in the debates as condescending like he has in his most recent TV ads, it will be a huge turn off for lots of folk...He tries his best to come off as a regular Joe, just one of us and he's pretty darn good at it....but I don't want a president who tries to come off as just one of us....I want a strong president with great ideas as to how he can move this country forward by creating jobs, creating an environment that is business & labor friendly...Obama has surrounded himself with people of academia rather than with practical people who have had experience in the work place...Four more years of Obama will result in an even higher debt, inflation creep & an increase in interest rates.  Student loans now exceed one trillion dollars....more than total credit card debt and more than car loans and Obama is in a mood to forgive student loans...After all, it's just yours and my tax dollars that Mr. O. wants to toss down the drain....even now there are 100,000 janitors with college degrees and some 16,000 parking lot attendants with college degrees...Folks, these figures were not pulled out of the sky....just google if you dare to know the truth.....

DO NOT believe that Romney  will fix that. he has no plans to cut government spending--on the contrary: he want to esscalate our military involvement in the world and it will cost YOU (his wealth is safe!)
Paul Ryan talks about it but it is only talking: he always voted for bigger government spending

Any wonder that 92% of troops doesn't plan to vote this year (i heard it on youtube but  from FOX)

I just read  A. Barry Rand's editorial in the current bulletin.  Had to laugh out loud when he states AARP is "non-partisan".  This organization is so liberal I can hardly read most of your articles.  I know folks who won't become members because of your bias.  But they are like people who refuse to watch Fox News because they think they are so bias.  I am not that bad, I do attempt to watch other net works because I want to see both sides.  We have Democratic ads on our local radio station that are absolute lies concerning the Republican candidates and their views on Medicare and Social Security.  The Republicans want to improve the system, not eliminate it.  If that is not done, we won't have these in the future period.  And if the Democrats get elected, we won;t have the United State we have known in the past.  I suggest that AARP wake up and truly become a non-partisan organization that is fair and balanced not like MSNBC commentators such as Chris Matthews, Al sharpten, and Rachael what's her name.
Sincerely,
Gregg Mullins, Bonita Springs, FL

oct 23 is all-inclusive debate by all the choices you have-in Chicago--but probably only c-span will show it as mainstream tv wants you to believe that only voting for 2 guys will make sense but CNN showed 2 of them (Buddy Roemer and Gary Johnson): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue9McWatER8

The Oct. 23 debate sounds really interesting. Too bad the Democratic and Republican nominees declined to participate. But then, what can you expect when their two parties control the network TV debates.

Hope everybody watches tonight's debates and listen closely to the candidates. Make sure you hold what they say under the harsh light of fact or fiction. Truth is truth. There's no spin to it.

Well, I really do have to thank the good doctor, as I didn't realize that one could get at the "truth" simply by Googling.

In fact, seems to me that both the wheat and the chaff is in ample supply on the web.

And, if you ask me, you seem to have collected all the chaff.

You think Obama is condescending? I guess you didn't bother to watch the Romney "47 percent" video in its entirety. I'd certainly recommend that you do so, because if you're retired, you're undoubtedly in the 47 Percent Club.

Here's one self-confessed political junkie writing about how she combines pleasure and pleasure on debate nights. Hint: Now a mature 50-something, she's evolved from beer to wine. How will you spend debate night?

I don't know if I'll be in the mood to watch the debates cause I could give a hoot about them and have this great-book I'm reading.

I will vote straight democratic party because of the policy platform.    I  don't want to see Soc Security attacked by republicans  because it had nothing to do with the deficit    and their proposal to have medicare disappear for those under 55 years old who will need it even more than we do ........and the democrats are the only ones who are apt to protect it since they were the ones who were originally responsible for us seniors having   them.

An economy has to be built from a growing middle class back to where this country was before the crisis.   We had .higher interest rates and higher taxation and a high stock market. during the 90's and 21 million jobs were created and we didn't have the two wars in AFgh & Iraq.     .

This piece does a nice job of looking into some of the idiosyncrasies of presidential debates.

I'm not ready for comfortable fireside chat between opponents, but I do wish they would address each other more often. And it would be fun if at least one of the debates included more candidates so that we'd get a wider range of ideas and personalities.

Have any suggestions for improving the debates?

Loved how Obama looked right at the camera and told the the 54-, 55-year-olds that they may want to pay attention to the realities of the Romney-Ryan Medicare plan. If R-R win, today's 55-year-olds will be the first seniors who will have to live with non-Medicare Medicare.

In presidential debate #1, Obama and Romney present their positions on Medicare.

What do you think?
