All of the debates are scheduled for 9-10:30 p.m. ET. They are sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonprofit group founded in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties.

Debates in Senate and House races have begun, but the future of Medicare and Social Security haven't been coming up very often.

AARP is calling for much better results in the presidential debates.

What questions about Medicare, Social Security and retirement security would YOU like candidates to answer?

The issues got a lot of direct attention at the AARP Life@50+ member event in New Orleans. It wasn't a debate, but President Obama and GOP vice presidential candidate Raul Ryan talked about Medicare, Social Security, jobs and gridlock in Washington. A discussion about the event has started in the Politics - Current Events online group.

oct 23 is all-inclusive debate by all the choices you have-in Chicago--but probably only c-span will show it as mainstream tv wants you to believe that only voting for 2 guys will make sense

but CNN showed 2 of them (Buddy Roemer and Gary Johnson):

Why is it Ryan and not Romney ?n Response to Election 2012 Debate Season:
The first presidential debate isn't until Oct. 3, but debates in Senate and House races have begun. Two debates for Senate seats yesterday: * In Massachusetts , Republican incumbent Scott Brown and Democrat Elizabeth Warren * In Virginia , two former governors, Tim Kaine and George Allen One thing those two debates had in common: the future of Medicare and Social Security didn't come up. AARP is calling for much better results in the presidential debates. What questions about Medicare, Social Security and retirement security would YOU like candidates to answer? The issues are sure to get direct attention today at the AARP Life@50 member event in New Orleans. It's not a debate, but President Obama and GOP vice presidential candidate Raul Ryan will answer questions submitted by AARP members. AARP members can get to a live stream of the event here.

My understanding is that Romney was of course invited, but citing a previously scheduled commitment that Romney had, his camp chose to send Ryan (and his mom).  What are your thoughts?

Ryan probably should have brought his wife, Janna, who has worked for years as a Private Healthcare Lobbyist in Wash. D.C. She has been lobbying for 3 of the largest Private Healthcare Companies in an attempt to dismantle Medicare and turn it into a Voucher System. The couple has a convenient connection to accomplish just that, at our expense unfortunately, because the Voucher system will be our death sentence. It reminds me of the Cheney - Halliburton connection and that sure worked out well for them, but not us.Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season:

Here's one self-confessed political junkie writing about how she combines pleasure and pleasure on debate nights. Hint: Now a mature 50-something, she's evolved from beer to wine.

How will you spend debate night?

are you making it into a big MEANINGFUL event? i can assure you that whoever wins American people will lose:
their rights ((Patriot Act, NDAA will stay) Maybe peaceful protesting will be illegal soon- these pesky protesters really frustrate our police...
they will also have to pay way more for everyday things as inflation is sure to skyrocket after dollar collapses (it has started: the rich drop dollar and invest in gold etc. The poor...well....

Both candidates will keep on spending OUR money

There is one, however slight, difference. Even though both listen to war-profiteering and do not mind dropping bombs on people, Romney seems more eager to start war with Iran and quite  possibly the WW3.

Since Iran is Russia's close ally it is possible that bombs would drop on our country too. (although draft will solve his one problem Romney will have another: no money!)

of course American people will lose no matter who wins in November. I'm not going to watch that show!

I won't be watching it either. They will probably just be patting each other on the backs.

There are more than two presidential candidates. Keep looking.

If Obama comes off in the debates as condescending like he has in his most recent TV ads, it will be a huge turn off for lots of folk...He tries his best to come off as a regular Joe, just one of us and he's pretty darn good at it....but I don't want a president who tries to come off as just one of us....I want a strong president with great ideas as to how he can move this country forward by creating jobs, creating an environment that is business & labor friendly...Obama has surrounded himself with people of academia rather than with practical people who have had experience in the work place...Four more years of Obama will result in an even higher debt, inflation creep & an increase in interest rates.  Student loans now exceed one trillion dollars....more than total credit card debt and more than car loans and Obama is in a mood to forgive student loans...After all, it's just yours and my tax dollars that Mr. O. wants to toss down the drain....even now there are 100,000 janitors with college degrees and some 16,000 parking lot attendants with college degrees...Folks, these figures were not pulled out of the sky....just google if you dare to know the truth.....

Simply watching the debates can be kind of passive. I want to be a part of it.

Sometimes I want to check the facts right then and there. Or maybe go back and doublecheck, Did I hear that right?

If a candidate says something that really fires me up, I might want to scream to the world. Or if I don't have that much energy, I might still want to take the pulse about how other viewers are reacting in real time — and then go to sleep while the spinmeisters yammer on.

This article is helping me figure out how to do all that and more.

How about you -- do you want to join the action?
