Here's the schedule for the debates between the presidential and vice presidential candidates. October 3 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic: Domestic policy Moderator: Jim Lehrer, host of NewsHour on PBS Location: University of Denver, Denver
October 11 Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan Topic: Domestic and foreign policy Moderator: Martha Raddatz, ABC News chief foreign correspondent) Location: Centre College, Danville, Ky.
October 16 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic: Domestic and foreign in town meeting format Location: Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y. Moderator: Candy Crowley, CNN chief political correspondent
October 22 President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney Topic: Foreign policy Moderator: Bob Schieffer, host of Face the Nation on CBS Location: Lynn University, Boca Raton, Fla. All of the debates are scheduled for 9-10:30 p.m. ET. They are sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonprofit group founded in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties. Debates in Senate and House races have begun, but the future of Medicare and Social Security haven't been coming up very often. AARP is calling for much better results in the presidential debates. What questions about Medicare, Social Security and retirement security would YOU like candidates to answer? The issues got a lot of direct attention at the AARP Life@50+ member event in New Orleans. It wasn't a debate, but President Obama and GOP vice presidential candidate Raul Ryan talked about Medicare, Social Security, jobs and gridlock in Washington. A discussion about the event has started in the Politics - Current Events online group. |

oct 23 is all-inclusive debate by all the choices you have-in Chicago--but probably only c-span will show it as mainstream tv wants you to believe that only voting for 2 guys will make sense but CNN showed 2 of them (Buddy Roemer and Gary Johnson): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue9McWatER8 |

Why is it Ryan and not Romney ?n Response to Election 2012 Debate Season: The first presidential debate isn't until Oct. 3, but debates in Senate and House races have begun. Two debates for Senate seats yesterday: * In Massachusetts , Republican incumbent Scott Brown and Democrat Elizabeth Warren * In Virginia , two former governors, Tim Kaine and George Allen One thing those two debates had in common: the future of Medicare and Social Security didn't come up. AARP is calling for much better results in the presidential debates. What questions about Medicare, Social Security and retirement security would YOU like candidates to answer? The issues are sure to get direct attention today at the AARP Life@50 member event in New Orleans. It's not a debate, but President Obama and GOP vice presidential candidate Raul Ryan will answer questions submitted by AARP members. AARP members can get to a live stream of the event here. In Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season: Why is it Ryan and not Romney ?n Response to Election 2012 Debate Season : My understanding is that Romney was of course invited, but citing a previously scheduled commitment that Romney had, his camp chose to send Ryan (and his mom). What are your thoughts?Posted by mandm84 |

Ryan probably should have brought his wife, Janna, who has worked for years as a Private Healthcare Lobbyist in Wash. D.C. She has been lobbying for 3 of the largest Private Healthcare Companies in an attempt to dismantle Medicare and turn it into a Voucher System. The couple has a convenient connection to accomplish just that, at our expense unfortunately, because the Voucher system will be our death sentence. It reminds me of the Cheney - Halliburton connection and that sure worked out well for them, but not us.Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season: In Response to Re: Election 2012 Debate Season : My understanding is that Romney was of course invited, but citing a previously scheduled commitment that Romney had, his camp chose to send Ryan (and his mom). Here's one self-confessed political junkie writing about how she combines pleasure and pleasure on debate nights. Hint: Now a mature 50-something, she's evolved from beer to wine. How will you spend debate night? |

Simply watching the debates can be kind of passive. I want to be a part of it. Sometimes I want to check the facts right then and there. Or maybe go back and doublecheck, Did I hear that right? If a candidate says something that really fires me up, I might want to scream to the world. Or if I don't have that much energy, I might still want to take the pulse about how other viewers are reacting in real time — and then go to sleep while the spinmeisters yammer on. This article is helping me figure out how to do all that and more. How about you -- do you want to join the action? |
