Earlier this year, AARP Bulletin produced an online exercise that explores some options for reducing the U.S. deficit. It's a really easy and useful interactive calculator that zeroes in on the projected budget for 2015. Upward of 50,000 have tried it. Many people left comments about the tool -- and the U.S. budget deficit -- and now we have a new article about some of the comments. Give the calculator a try and see if you can do what Congress hasn't.

I could balance the federal budget in a decade by raising the taxes back to the Clinton era and slashing the Pentagon budget and taking loopholes away from corporations and taxing them at a rate of 100%  for taking money out of the country.

But here is a unique thought.       The government, thinks that it makes perfect sense to collect $100 of tax revenue, spend the $100, and then declare that it now owes itself $100

This is exactly what the Federal Govt does with excess FICA tax collections  when the economy is behaving normally.

The USA  eagerly embraces  the idea of immediately spending all tax revenues intended for the eventual support of senior citizens on things like wars,    "tax incentives" for Wall Street, tax cuts for the very wealthy, accelerated depreciation allowances for big business, research and development to support Big Pharma, "soil banks", etc.

Easily. Implement SP/UHC and merely *match* the per-capita/PPP costs of France (rated #1 in the world for cost and effectiveness of healthcare).

Savings: $1T to $1.8T per year.

Savings go to the feds (Medicare cost reductions), states AND feds (Medicaid cost reductions), and consumers (lower costs for medical care).

I get a 1% commission on all savings for doing the math and showing it does work. Hey, that is cheaper than a Realtor!
