Agreed! There has to be oversight and someone must assume responsibility. Response to Re: Big Bird vs. the WARN Act: In Response to Big Bird vs. the WARN Act : I just wonder how many billions of $$$ we're paying to defense contractors to profit from a decade of wars. If we ended all this foolishness, how much could we be saving? I saw a documentary made in 2006 about how much defense contractors and private companies were making in Iraq. One company charged $45 for a 6 pack of Coke and another charged $99 to do a bag of laundry for a soldier. Some were building mansions to house the contractors while our own soldiers are sleeping in poor contitions. Here we're paying all this money when our own country is falling apart. You live in a perfect world Labrat however many square feet that may be. But many people live where industry exploits their workers and believe me it is happening today in the coal mines. shipyards, oil fields, etc. and without unions rather good or bad they are vulnerable to the whims of the greed of big business. Seems you as well as MItt haven't a clue of these workers plight. In Response to Re: Big Bird vs. the WARN Act: My point- unions are un-necessary. Could you imagine a strike by a police or fire union? Reward employees according to their effort, not based on longevity. That's the way it's done in private industry. Police and fire have no Strike clauses in their contract and they live up to their contracts. Reward employees only by their effort huh? Imagine your a 50 yr. old.. and your pushing yourself to the limit. A 25 yr old Policeman out produces you with more arrests, tickets and calls for service. You both go to your Sgt. for vacation, but the new guy gets the vacation because he outproduces you and the Sgt. likes him better. You go to your Sgt. and he says," sorry the new guy is outproducing you." Does longevity matter anymore because you are doing your best at 50 yrs of age, but cant keep up with a young man half your age ??? Without Union Contracts guess who doesn't get the vacation he deserves and has earned from being on the job for 30 yrs. and this scenario is even worse for hard labor working jobs. Its about protecting that worker who gave 30 yrs of blood, sweat and tears to his company. When you are dealing with physically demanding and stressful jobs, Unions protect workers. Its about fairness. Response to Re: Big Bird vs. the WARN Act: My point- unions are un-necessary. Could you imagine a strike by a police or fire union?
