Under obama, giving away "obama bucks" helps him to get re-elected. Why are we giving $10,000 to someone that buys an electric sports care that costs $100,000? Why are we giving food stamps to people that can do without them? Why are we giving welfare to people that are just plain lazy and stay on it for 3-4 generations? It's about time people took responsibility for their own futures!!! This Great Nation was built by people that weren't afraid to take risks and work hard, not by a bunch of lazy people that would rather sit back and have others pay for their food, housing, education and medical care. Response to Balanced Federal Budget: The only long term cure for Social Security, Medicare and all other Federal Assistance programs is to once and for all require a balanced budget. If we continue to flagrantly outspend the revenue sources, the time will come when everyone is without income and medical care. The nation will be broke and the Great Depression will seem like good times. Gimme, gimme, gimme is all you hear anymore. Any one else agree??? Posted by deakins47 |

Response to Balanced Federal Budget : Posted by Labrat64 Saying it is one thing - but how are you gonna get people to do it? Even when our finances in the country were good and we were growing, how many folks started to build their emergency fund, their college fund, their retirement fund, their long term care fund? Heck, most have only minimum down-payment for a home - if even that. Seems many go through life with only minimum aspiration to do anything but get through the month or even a week. We need a whole NEW CHANGE in mentality. Some say it is up to government to set a "livable wage" - I am of the opinion that you can set your own worth based on your talents, expertise and the need . With all the things that I listed above as necessities during some point in life - a "living wage" would be quite a good bit. |

I agree. We have to change the "don't worry the government will provide mindset". I've always been prepared for all contingencies and we instilled that in our sons. They worked summers during high school and in college. They understood the value of money. They;re raising families with those things in mind. Unfortunately, what we now have are people that would rather fall back on the government, rather than be prepared themselves. It's not all bad news though. Over the past few years Americans have been deleveraging. Personal debt has dropped sharply. What upsets me most is responsible people having to pay for those that are irresponsible, be it home mortgages on more home than they could afford, or student loans. I'm currently doing geneological research on my family. My grandfather came here in 1900. Based upon what I've uncovered, people relied on family, their church and the local community (in that order). Relying on a remote government was never part of the picture. The groups I mentioned had a much better idea of your condition and needs. Government just doles out money indescriminantly. Response to Re: Balanced Federal Budget: I have no objection to helping people who really need help. The question is how to determine if someone really needs help. America was built by people helping their neighbors in times of need. Americans are the most giving people in the world, but we are getting a vast number of people who want to be the most receiving people in the world. Posted by deakins47 |

The other problem is that it's hard to make rules that fit all parts of the country fairly. |
