Yes Jan, Another Republican trait of "BETTER YOU THAN ME". Instead of trying to help by trying to understand the problem of poverty, especially the increase in it, they want to blame these people. They forget we are all in this boat together. In Response to Re: Assult on America: In Response to Re: Assult on America : the top 1% in America own 37% of all the wealth . That the top 1% enjoy more than 20% of all the income. So – who made it this way? The nurses, fast-food workers, teachers, cashiers, police officers and secretaries? Or the 1 percent at the top? Today, 15% of the USA -- nearly one in seven Americans -- are considered poor, the highest rate of poverty since 1993. Now among the poor are the college-educated, the former middle-class worker, the suburbanite and the homeowner. They've been hit by layoffs, cuts in work hours, health problems and other crises. They've gone through savings and 401(k)s. They live off food stamps or other government benefits and rely on help from family members and friends. IF Obama isn't re-elected and one of the GOP gets into the White House, we had better PRAY loudly that the Congress isn't lost to the Republicans. Otherwise, this country is going to be in a deep depression within a matter of a year or 18 months after the GOP--- takes over the government. NEVER FORGET THE EIGHT YEARS under the GOP WHEN WE ALL FELL THROUGH THE FLOOR VOTE OBAMA 2012---- Posted by JANMB |

A lot of those people that were laid off were coal miners and others forced out of work by onerous EPA regulations. I'll bet the college educated people that are out of work were professional students that majored in useless subjects, like gender stuidies or art history. Students that were engineering majors have no problem finding a job. As far as the distribution of wealth goes, your destiny is in your hands. If you're poor because you have 10 kids by 8 baby daddies, don't blame those that are responsible. Well you just should be in the elite 1% of the Republican elite? I'm sure you controlled your destiny to the fullest. You could be a mentor and show some of these poor just how to get as rich as you are, start their own business, invest in the stock market and manipulate Washington politicians. What unkept promises are you referring to ? and by the way Goldman Sachs in 2012 donated $700,000 to Romney and $90,000 to Obama. President Obama is not a flip flopper and not a Corporate Raider who sends our jobs to China like Romney does and will. President Obama stands tall for Democracy for ALL. n Response to Re: Assult on America: yes, vote Obama if you like "business as usual", unkept promises made just to be elected, his support for NDAA-bill taking some of our rights away (but wait, there will be more...) - and that GOLDMAn SACHS IS THE MAIN CONTRIBUTOR TO HIS CAMPAIGN. or vote for Romney--- for exactly the same reasons.

Tell that to our disabled, seniors and veterans, because they are being cut off by the Republicans. The Republicans have a cute way of throwing even our struggling disabled, beloved seniors and veterans, under the same bus. Alot of Americans did the right things and did work hard, but many have health challenges or are too old to work or because of their age or health cant find work. I'm glad you're doing ok, but alot of people aren't to no fault of their own. What about their destiny ? When Bush demanded the Tax Cuts for Corporations and the Wealthy over 11 years ago , Bush promised it would create jobs and stimulate the economy. Where are the jobs ? Corporations hoarded that tax break money and the people lost about 2 trillion dollars in tax revenue, not to mention the 4 trillion dollars thrown away in Iraq. The Republicans dont want to talk about that 6 trillion dollars lost. Then you add in the Obstructionist Republican Congress, who stall, delay and filibuster and wont pass President Obama's job bills. Please call it like it is. What is the Republicans response, its President Obama's fault and not Bush's. response to Re: Assult on America: A lot of those people that were laid off were coal miners and others forced out of work by onerous EPA regulations. I'm sorry to inform you that I'm not in the upper 1%- more like the upper 30%. I've never owned a business and always worked as a corporate employee, except when I went to school-when i worked for the school cleaning lab glassware and setting up displays or working summers collecting trash for the Parks Dept. I resent this constant class warfare theme-the rich are responsible for your poverty. If it were not for them you would have more. Well, as adults we are responsible for our destinies. This is "The Land of Opportunity". But you must work hard to get it. We've lost our way. If something is taxed or overregulated, it is discouraged. If something is subsidised it is encouraged. If I receive 99 weeks of unemployment, why look for a job until week 90? If i receive a subsidized student loan, why go to a school I can afford, I'll worry about that later. If I have 8 kids that I can't afford why worry about it, the government will provide welfare payments, free housing, food stamps, and medicaid. I live in Queens County, the most ethnically diverse county in the nation. I see many people that have been in this country for a few years. They have taken advantage of the opportunities this country offers and made something of themselves. They have not asked for government handouts. We are an exceptional nation. One of a kind. We do not need a president that constantly makes excuses for us to the world or bows down to arab potentates. President Obama is the last person that wants to see able bodied people on Welfare. With all due respect, it appears to me that your dislike for Obama and Democrats in general has blinded you my friend. I try to see BOTH sides of the road. I supported the Republicans under Ronald Reagan, but Mitt Romney and George W. Bush were not and never will be half the man Reagan was. Reagan understood that Compromise and shaking hands across the table was Democracy. This country cant survive on either the far right or far left. Todays Republicans only care about the wealthy and our seniors, disabled and even veterans are being thrown under the bus. To continue giving the wealthiest more, while cutting support for our vulnerable seniors, disabled and veterans is outrageous. I get a kick out of the Republicans, who say they are Christians, but then cut $ 200 billion from Medicare for our beloved seniors, disabled and veterans. What would Jesus Do ? Give the wealthy more riches or help our struggling seniors and disabled ?n Response to Re: Assult on America: I'm sorry to inform you that I'm not in the upper 1%- more like the upper 30%.
