In Response to AARP Social Security TV Commercials: Why is AARP running a commercial on TV implying that congress is trying to cut Social Security? Any change in Social Security that has been talked about would not apply to any AARP current members, unless you have started taking member under 50 years old. Your commercial is a lie! And you are scaring your members and people posting to this message board. You can thank President Johnson (a democrat) for destroying the SS fund when he started using it for the Federal General Fund. Even then, the money paid in was going into treasury bills (promissory notes) that would be in trouble today, because your democrat friends have run up trillions in debt buying votes. So the money we put in is gone and it is now hand to mouth funding. Our kids and our grand kids are paying for our retirement. Proud of that? I can understand why they want to opt out, because they can see that this Ponzi scheme is going to collapse and their money that they put in to support us, will be gone too. AARP supports the current administration running this crap about protecting social security and at the same time supports Obama-care, that will put us even more in debt. This organization is in the Democrat's pocket in a tit for tat arrangement. Wake up and support people that want to cut spending and get a handle on debt before we hit bottom. These people in Washington are about winning elections buying votes and no concern for anything else. MHO Skipjack68 Posted by skipjack68 |

In Response to Re: AARP Social Security TV Commercials: I've worked in Shipyards all my working life. If you think that a 70 year old can climb 5 stories of stairs three or four times a day and get in enclosed spaces that are hot, dirty and dark to weld or fit steel I don't think you are realizing what you are saying when you say the retirement age should be raised. This work is sometimes hard for a younger person. The older one gets the harder it is. No matter how long we are living. If you keep working a 60 year old that hard he won't last long. There are some jobs out there that are phyiscally demanding. For anyone to say raise the retirement age has to walk a mile or so in their shoes before saying something like that. Posted by creppelrm I agree it's such a TERRIBLE idea to raise the retirement age knowing that 40% of our citizens have service-oriented jobs often with so many who are actually doing hard-labor. People are living longer due to better medical treatments doesn't mean people are healthier and able to work longer. But those in CONGRESS sit on their butts for three days a week & then are off campaigning so they don't THINK that clerk in a store or sitting behind a computer is difficult unless you are doing that 40 hrs a week either. There is a shortage of good jobs now without making seniors work longer and taking jobs from the young. It's almost like that's the goal .....to have less jobs for more people who need them. That's a PLUS for employers who can offer non-negotiable wages and benefits and who knows....maybe it's the corporatists who are behind this. |

I totally agree. AARP has been taken over by the far left. We need a change in management aat the earliest possible opportunity.
