In Response to AARP failure to fight to fight the reduction in the payroll tax rate: I am disappointed in the AARP, which continues to spread propaganda that is the largest and most powerful voice of retirees. Unfortunately, too often it does the bidding of its clients in travel, insurance, health related businesses at the expense of the very people it claims to advocate for. Most directly has been what they AARP has done the past year and a half to fight against the cut in the payroll tax rate, the single revenue stream which funds the Social Security Trust Fund. Since the first rate cut, from 6.2% to 4.1% the trust fund received more than $110 billion less and with the passage of an extension...it could lose an additional $200 billion if continues for the entire year. Why hasn't the AARP taken ads criticizing this effort...or support the Republicans who fought this cut in needed revenue Nor, did the AARP air one complaint that over 30,000,000 retirees do not benefit from the payroll tax rate cut. These are two examples why so many seniors are discouraged with the AARP. We see numerous ads for insurance, travel and other "goodies"for being members but nothing on issues. More often the public sees partisan criticism, usually against Republicans who understand Social Security and Medicare need solutions rather divisive rhetoric which both Democrats and the AARP are famous for. I look forward to reading what others have to say.. Regards, Anthony Bruno Retired Cary, NC Posted by ajbruno14 I was waiting to see if AARP was going to come on aboard. with this "extension" of the reduction in FICA taxes ....but apparently NOT. You are correct....we dont' need travel advice there are hundreds of other sources for all the Ads we see on this site and other things as well. We need FOCUS ON our important benefits of SS and Medicare. AARP is supposed to be our lobbyist. No one explains WHY the reduction after they told us the fund may run out in a couple decades......it's the stupidity of the times.....it's like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing and creates a mess. |
