By way of background, there's an explanation on the website. AARP member volunteers created this event in Wyoming and that's why it's held there. If you scroll down and read "about the speling bee" you'll see the history. http://www.aarp.org/entertainment/arts-leisure/aarp_spellingbee.html In Response to Re: Spelling Bee 2012: I seriously considered entering or just visiting the AARP Spelling Bee in Cheyenne. When I checked the airline costs for a flight from Dallas to Cheyenne, it became apparent that I could not afford the trip. Why in the world would AARP select a rather remote location for the contest? Makes me wonder if the organization intended to make the contest inaccessible to most of its members or just to those who are part of the 99%. I find this action on the part of AARP rather shocking and finally decided to write about it. Posted by sopras |
