In Response to Looking for financial aid or grants to further education and continue working: [QUOTE]I am 65 and want to continue working for as long as I can. The healthcare industry seems to be the way to go. I'd like to obtain a certification in Medical Coding and Billing, but can't afford to pay for the classes. Would anyone know of monetary assistance specifically for seniors. Any info or leads would be greatly appreciated Thanks Posted by judim1946[/QUOTE That is why I came to AARP today. Only I want to take the medical transcription course. Did you ever find out where seniors can get financial aid for education? Where were you going to take your course? |

The U.S. Department of Education provides information on grants, scholarships, and other financial aid for college students from the state, including federally-supported state programs such as Byrd scholarships and LEAP (Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership) grants: http://wdcrobcolp01.ed.gov/Programs/EROD/org_list.cfm?category_cd=SGT It's listed by state, so you will have to go there and click on the state you live in. CareerOneStop has information on grants, loans and scholarships: http://www.careeronestop.org/EducationTraining/Pay/FinancialAid.aspx Finding educational help for seniors isn't as easy as for youths, since it's young who usually need more/higher education. But there are programs out there. You just have to do a lot of searching on the internet. Good luck! |
