I received an e-mail (verified in Snopes) that HR4646 is to add 1% "transactuib fee (tax )on EVERY electronic bank tranaction.    This includes SS checks deposits.  Has anyone else heard of this?  I am contacting my representatives but I want to spread the work if its not common knowledge.    The e-mail reads that it is to be passed in the 4th quater of 2012...after elections.  So, if you deposit $5000, the fee will be $50.     The bill was introduced bo US Rep Peter DeFasio D-Oregon, and U.S. Senator Tom Harkin D-Iowa.Search snopes.com:Debt Free America Act.

This legislation died in 2010.
You need to start checking Snopes yourself or looking up the status of the legislation on gov.track.

Truth about H.R. 4646
An internet rumor has been circulating that claims that Congressman Peter DeFazio introduced a bill titled H.R. 4646 along with Senator Tom Harkin and that it would levy a 1 percent tax on every financial transaction including credit card transactions and even social security deposits. It also claims to be supported by the non-partisan factchecking website Snopes.com

H.R. 4646 was introduced in 2010 by Rep. Chaka Fattah of Pennsylvania, and has no cosponsors.

These days there are innumerable rumors circulating around the internet.  Factcheck.org, Snopes and Politifact Oregon have debunked this myth, with Politifact Oregon calling it a “pants on fire lie”
