So, the governor wants to balance the budget, but, while we are already struggling for jobs, and the price of going to work , if you still have a job, is outrageous! It cost me $3.93 per gallon this week! And .62 cents of that is tax???? Enough!

In Response to Re: Gas Tax Hike - Enough Already!: We all hate taxes but we want what the taxes pay for and when we don't get these things we complain too. . The USA was using less oil even last year but now the economy has improved. Some of the experts said we're now in the early stages of a volatile end game, especially as China and India continue to develop and increase their energy consumption. There's no easy way to drill our way out of it. The U.S. Energy Information Administration has reported that the number of U.S. oil fields has quadrupled in the past 3 years. In 2011, under President Obama, domestic oil production hit an 8-year high. Posted by JANMB Can you give a link to your pasted data please; I am not able to locate it. TIA |

Posted by JANMB I would like to get the whole story on oil production, since the information on the news is contradictory, depending on who you listen to. Chrles Krautheimer says that Obama is against oil drilling, which is contrary to what you said here. Which is the truth? http://bangordailynews.com/2012/03/18/opinion/seaweed-in-your-gas-tank/?ref=mostReadBoxOpinion AND the Norwegian Company , Maersk, is planning to build more rigs for the gulf Coast drilling? Isn't that where they spilled that stuff?? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-18/maersk-drilling-to-spend-much-as-6-billion-on-oil-rigs.html Who do you believe? |

In Response to Gas Tax Hike - Enough Already!: I listened to several financial experts recently and all four of them seem to be saying the same thing: "The increase in oil prices have nothing to do with supply and demand and EVERYTHING to do with speculators." The minute the word "Iran" was mentioned, oil prices increased. Last week, when the "Iran" outlook changed, prices went down. So, who really is at fault for increases in the price of oil? Speculators and Wall Street, who else? The reality according to government reports since 2009 is that Americans are using 11% less oil in each of the last three years. The increases are due to the fact that many US manufacturers are producing fuel efficient and hybrid vehicles which is reducing gasoline consumption. Look at this for what it is. Gasoline consumption is more than 50% of Big Oil profits. Add to that the increasing conversions to alternative energy like solar, wind, geothermal and Big Oil is seeing its Black Gold Rush dwindling and with it the obscene profits this monopoly industry has grown all too accustomed to. Big Oil isn't above using revenge tactics when Americans sensibly refuse something like the above ground 1750 mile long Keystone Pipeline. All it would take for a disaster with Keystone is a single tornado, wild fire or twister which occurs with frequency in the states that would be forced to allow the pipeline. Will Big Oil pay for this? No. They'll do what they did with the Exxon Valdez spill. Wait until a Big Oil boi gets into the White House and then dump 50% of the cost of an oil spill on taxpayers like they did in 2007. Americans have options. Use them. If it's an oil addiction, get thee to alternative energy rehab. Many Americans who began their home conversion with a single hot water heater saw just how much of a savings converting to solar really is. Now, solar energy is here to stay whether or not Big Oil likes it. |

Good points, Eleanore1946, And, since our own production is down, that must mean less fuel usage, too? If we conserve, and simultaneously produce more oil by drilling, we can cut our dependence on the Middle East even further. We have to, since our deficit is in the sky, and our taxes are already too high! Where are the good leaders to help us get these things done?? |
