In Response to Re: Watch Out for Bogus Phone and Online Surveys: I received a text message to my cell phone, allegedly from Best Buy as a "$1,000 Best Buy Winner". I did a reverse telephone search and learned that is was an unlisted number and also that the area code was from MI. I did not respond, but contacted my local Best Buy store where the manager informed me that it was a scam. Posted by joncon25 The old adage applies, "If it's too good to be true, it is!" The recent changes with placing the Social Security checks through direct deposit have brought out some criminals who prey on innocent elderly people who are not internet savvy . The fact is very simple , never give out your social security number over the phone! And, never give out your banking information over the phone! And, of course, never let anyone over the phone know when you are home , or not home! If they are calling and stating they are from Medicare, Social Security, or any government agency, tell them that they must contact you by mail, and you do not give out information over the phone. Furthermore, tell them you are reporting them to the police immediately. Have you been scammed by telephone criminals? |
