Stop Unwanted Phone Calls...

Stop Unwanted Phone Calls...

So we just posted a story on stopping unwanted phone calls. The story talks about some loop holes that telemarketers use to get around the National Do Not Dial registry. It got me wondering, what are some of the craziest things you've gotten an unwanted phone call about? The worst I got was a port-a-jon company trying to sell me portable toilets. I think because I had worked with a golf tournament once, my name and number was recorded. It wasn't exactly the type of call I wanted to waste cell phone minutes on. |

The biggest problem I have is with a scam outfit called AARP. They call with these surveys that I can't even hang up on; I put the phone down for 10 seconds or more, and when I pick up, they're still on! If there was an emergency where I needed the phone, AARP would prevent me from getting help and put my life in danger. I also got a call with a pre-recorded panel discussion about senior fraud which went on for 20 minutes.. I was able to call their complaint number and they said they wouldn't stop calling for at least 12 weeks. I have seen other posts and they 'forget' and keep calling. In this age of computers thee is no reason for a 12 week delay, they're just hoping we'll forget and give up. Boy, did they pick on the wrong guy. AARP is now a mortal enemy and I will not rest untyil they die. Lawsuits to come. |

That's what I thought about the DNC, too. I've been on that list for years but the calls still come. It's like these callers do not really respect the law. Just this morning, I got 3 calls agains from this credit card company. And how can I ask them to remove me from their call list when all 3 calls were long AUTOMATED messages?

Well, a friend suggest I do pranks instead when they call. I found a lot of tips at http://www.callercenter.com/articles/14waystoannoytelemarketers.html. But I'm doubtful. Are pranks legal? I mean, they harass me with phone calls everyday! Can I just at least pull up a prank? But don't want to get into trouble.

a call today said "by listening to this call you are acknowledging that you are" (male voice then spoke like when we put our name a voicemail--call came in to work and name of man was not anyone that worked there) I hung up just as she started to go to the next thing. It sounded like by listening we were agreeing on some political decision. What a fraud! No chance to hang up before they'd collected the phone number and registered it (incorrectly) as representing someones belief in or agreement with whatever... |

The Do Not Call list doesn't work. Most annoying calls I receive are from a company offering lower interest rates and another selling security systems. They're robo calls. Nobody is online, and it doesn't matter if you push the number to get off their list. I noticed the other day that AARP is connected with a home security system company. I wonder if AARP gives our phone numbers to these companies? I don't give my number out. Now politicians are doing robo calls that fill the answering machine. |

I wnet through one of their autoamted surveys, waiting to hear how to stop thses calls. I was not close to paper & pencil and could not copy the 877 number they gave to have these calls stop. What a load of $@#! I should be offerred a prompt to press #1 or #2 just as I did with the survey! |

I got several calls from a company called Visa Credit who wanted to lower the interest rate on my Target Visa. The caller asked me for the last 8 digits of the card number as well as the special number on the back of the card which alerted to me to the fraud. I figured if they were really visa they would have the number. Upon questioning the caller further about them not having the number they hung up on me. I called Target and they were not lowering my credit interest. I could not get them to stop calling so I filed a complaint with the FTC and a consumer complaint office I got off the internet. I've not heard anything for about 3 weeks. I don't know what other action to take on this. |
