I didn't see home repair/contactor scams in the top five. I hear about it locally in the Atlanta, GA area with some regularity. As a matter of fact, I have been scammed out of almost $1000.00 dollars

I didn't see home repair/contactor scams in the top five. I hear about it locally in the Atlanta, GA area with some regularity. As a matter of fact, I have been scammed out of almost $1000.00 dollars by a "handyman" repair person, who has my money, but has not done the jobs verbally agreed upon, and will now not meet with me to discuss this.
I know, I know, I should have never given over my money without a written agreement and accompanying receipts for materials. And I should have never paid completely for a job until finished.
In my defence he had done some jobs for me a couple of years ago with no problem, but from what he told me he is now going through some hard financial times, and needed the money quickly. So I gave it to him. I now realize I am suffering from some cognitive limitations, and I can't trust myself to make some of the decisions that were just so easy and common for me in the past. Fortunately, I am married to the world's most wonderful woman who is 14 years younger then me and still retains all of her faculties. I have swallowed hard, and admitted to her what I have done, and told her I would involve her in all future financial decisions.
I just hate that he will get away this. I don't know what to do or who to turn to, to see that he doesn't do it again, and get my money back - I not in the best financial shape either. I have since found out he has no license to do any repair work!

I suggest you to always go for authentic services for any kind of repair in your house. Its very sad that you have lost a lot amount of money. But from next time you go for authentic services. For any kind of home repair you can hire leak detection proffetionalist ,they are reliable and less expensive. They help in detecting leaks and  any type of water damage can be repaired by them efficiently and with less time.  They also call the insurance and get the money for the damage on your behalf.
