Yes, AARP is a fraud in my book.

Below is an e-mail I sent today to AARP, after 2 weeks without any form of response. What a waste of time and money, on an organization supposedly established to serve me and other "members" with integrity and accountability.

When I try to send a message via AARP's website, they haven't even added their e-mail address as a potential contact for their members! Another demonstration of lack of accountability.

Not a professional organization, from my perspective. Anyone else experience the same thing? I'm considering filing a complaint with the BBB.

Hello,

Apparently, based on the lack of response to my e-mail to you sent 2 weeks ago, AARP does not care about its members or their problems with AARP. Pretty pathetic for an organization of this size and demographic position.

I feel scammed by AARP, and I would definitely not recommend ANYONE join AARP based on my experience thus far.

Sincerely,

Michael XXXXXXX

Hello,

My name is Michael XXXXXXX, AARP member #XXXXXXXXXX since Sept. ####.

Thus far, I'm disappointed in what I see as a lack of integrity and congruency with AARP, and not sure if membership in this organization is serving me in any way.

I've received numerous mailings from AARP over the past couple of years, and I responded to a phone call I received from AARP in Sept. 2011 by joining. I mentioned some of the premium items being offered by AARP as an inducement to join, and was told about the many benefits AARP offers to its members.

However, even though I was promised I would be mailed the premium item requested by the AARP representative who signed me up, that has never been received in over 4 months since joining. In addition, I've priced some of the programs for insurance and travel offered by AARP, and they are not competitively priced. I receive even better discounts from my existing plans and memberships. In essence, I feel AARP has not fulfilled its promises and representations to me, and I'm disappointed.

Quite frankly, I get upset every time I see an AARP ad in print or TV, touting their inducement premiums, due to my experience.

Rather than just cancel my membership without any explanation as to why, I felt it best to first share my experiences and observations leading up to where I am at present.

Thank you in advance for your prompt response.

Sincerely,

Michael XXXXXXX

My guess is that someone from AARP will make a response to my post, wanting to dismiss it as an irregularity or oversight, and asking me to call them to discuss the issues. However, I've already left a voice message 2 weeks ago, in addition to the only e-mail address AARP provides, without any form of response other than an automated response assuring me to expect a response within a few days.

No, I won't bother trying to call again. It's proven fruitless and a waste of time.

What's the only viable option?

See how many others have experienced the same problems with AARP, have a tidal wave of cancelled memberships with AARP, all filing complaints against AARP with the BBB, and demand refunds for not providing the products and services which remain unfulfilled, and ultimately the removal of AARP's ability to market to people under the inducement to provide products and services they have no intention of fulfilling -- through any nd all legal means available.

I don't trust AARP to provide anything of value to me or anyone else.

mk1954Christian@gmail.com, I put that in so anyone can email me. I do NOT know what to think about AARP. I thought it was a place for people to get answers and help with SS and other issues, but the blogs I am reading including the most recent one makes me feel like I am being  scammed like several other people who trust this site. This site is supposed to be so informative, yet I agree that if you have a problem or not a resolution, you get guys on the line that want to get into a merrygoround of arguements with the guys defending AARP and making you feel like you did something wrong. My impression? they are never wrong, at least thats how the guys handle issues. But they want you to take surveys about "how are we doing at AARP, what do you think of our service" honestly? too many people to confuse the situation and one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing or did, that kind of issue. One person should be able to handle one problem and not have to transfer you all over the place to people that you have to repeat the problem, or you get someone who says, well, I dont know why that person told you that, that is not the answer,  well, doesn't  the  other person get trained like you do to know how to answer and solve the problem, then the familiar computer generated response, Im sorry that happened, how can I help you. Before long you feel like your talking to robots, programmed to respond in ONE certain way, and ALWAYS an appology, enough appologies, can you fix the problem or not. I thought AARP was there for you. Then they ask for a renewal of subscription. Honeslty, subscriptions are supposed to last for a while. I really hate throwing money away. I DO NOT THINK AARP REALLY WANTS TO BE BOTHERED WITH HELPING CUSTOMERS MUCH, THEY SEEM TO BE IRRITATED WITH IT AND ARGUMENTATIVE SHOULD YOU SUGGEST THEY MAY HAVE MADE AN ERROR, THEY ARE  QUICK TO POINT OUT THAT  YOU HAVE THE PROBLEM, NOT AARP, THEY DONT MAKE MISTAKES. That's what I have found during  several different phone calls with them. CAUTION, AARP MAY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH IDENTITY THEFT inside AARP, IT MAY HAVE HAPPENED TO ME, IM STILL LOOKING INTO IT. JEANNETTE PHILLIPS WAS THE PROBLEM, SHE CHANGED MY LOGIN INFO WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. IT WAS A MESS, I COULD NOT ACCESS MY OWN ACCOUNT FOR THE LONGEST TIME, I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY, THEN I HAD TO CALL AND I FOUND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. ALL MY PERSONAL INFO CHANGED BY JEANNETTE. WHY? FIRST THEY DIDNT HAVE HER ON STAFF, THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON, THEN THEY HAD HER ON STAFF, AND DIDNT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND OF COURSE, MY ERROR. NOT THEIRS. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS WITH AARP

I think the one thing that really gets to me about AARP is how many companies that pay for advertising from them that commit rip offs from the same individuals that AARP says they are here to help...AARP is a rip off themselves I have asked questions via email and they just do not bother to answer after weeks...time to get rid of the upper management who have become shills for their advertisers and a political action committee for the Dems

Behind the Veil:  The AARP America Doesn't Know

The report also details the Democrats’ health care law’s significant cuts to Medicare Advantage (MA) and how the interplay in the marketplace between MA and Medigap will increase Medigap sales. This will have a direct, significant, and positive impact on future profits at AARP.  Also troubling is the report’s central finding:  The Democrats’ health care law, which AARP strongly endorsed, could result in a windfall for AARP that exceeds over $1 billion during the next 10 years.
