I'm a young 65 year old woman who has been divorced for the past 18 years.  I retired last year and am drawing on my small social security check.  I was a stay at home mom until 1983.  I do have retirement money set aside but am trying not to use it because I am in good health and plan to be around for a long time.  I would like to draw on my x-husbands Social Security but not sure if I should draw it now or wait.  They say it would be about half of his which is more than mine however if I wait a year until i'm 66 which is my full retirement age or wait until I'm 70 will it be more?  If anyone has a heads up about this please let me know.  At one point I thought I'd get mine PLUS half the difference between his and mine.  Thanks for any help out there.    Pat O:*)

Just a few years ago my wife and I visited the social security office to check on some detail about my social security. While there, my wife who was real close to turning 62 at the time, and hadn't worked in many years, decided to ask the lady at the window about the wisdom of her waiting until she turned 65 before drawing, so that she could get a bigger check.

The lady didn't bat an eye; she simply said: "hon you don't want to do that - you'll never make up the difference - and you don't know what's coming in the future. Take the money now." She did. We're glad.
