I love using baking soda, and have been doing it for years. IT even makes a good toothpaste, that does help keep your teeth white, without those expensive whiteners. But, lately, I have found the old baking soda hard to find in the stores. They are offering the more expensive ones for carpet odors, but, finding the old boxes, which were very inexpensive is not as easy anymore. One trend in cleaning, and picking your pockets , too, is to get us all hooked on items we have to keep buying. You know , all those floor cleaning products that need refills, over and over again?? They are easy to use ,. buit your wallet will hurt! Old fashioned cleaning products, like oil soap, baking soda, and ammonia are still the best. Remember when soap didn't have anit-bacterial expensive additives??? |

BettyCM I know exactly what you mean about the floor cleaning products. I bought the whole contraption and a few refills but after I used up what I had, the mop head just takes up space in my closet! |

A word of warning about using vinegar with baking soda... I thought I'd be precise and follow the "recipe" for cleaning the toilet bowl. Measured out a cup of vinegar and tried to stir in the baking soda. Boy was I surprised when it bubbled over! Next time I'll take a guess at the measurements and pour them directly into the toilet bowl. |

But, you did the right thing! Your mixture , vinegar and baking soda makes bubbles that get the toilet bowl clean ! Vinegar is cheap, and a great cleaner! The mixture you don't want is bleach and ammonia!!! That combination results in a dangerous fume, and you must not breathe it in! Ammonia is cheap , too, and cleans a lot of surfaces, without the extra cost of aerosols, or the dangerous fumes they give off. |
