I covered my living room with rugs. It is a medium gray color, but has so many dark spots and looks terrible. I've cleaned some patches with pine cleaner using a stiff bristle brush. For about 2 week

Anyone have experience with rented or buying rug cleaners?

I covered my living room with rugs. It is a medium gray color, but has so many dark spots and looks terrible. I've cleaned some patches with pine cleaner using a stiff bristle brush. For about 2 weeks the rugs looks clean, but then the spots return. I guess the only way I'll get it clean is to rent or buy a carpet cleaner machine which sucks up the dirty water. I don't expect to restore the carpet, just to get it much cleaner than it is.
Has anyone used one of these before? Do these really work? Will I need some special cleaning solvents? Do you have any idea of machine cost if I want to buy?

Hi, Mark...

I have a Bissell Proheat steamer/cleaner, and I would definitely recommend it. What's nice about the Proheat is that it continuously heats the water while the machine is in use, and unless you don't go over your rug very well, it won't leave it sopping wet. Bissell has a variety of cleaners that you can use with the machine, which range in price but I've been happy with the results they produce. I've seen prices range from $150 to $250 for this machine, but there is a small "Little Green Proheat" that is less than $100, which I haven't used but might be all you need if you're cleaning rugs as opposed to a whole house of carpet.

Hope this helps!
Jennifer
