In Response to Walgreens dropping customers - ALL TriCare & ESI Coverage as of January 1, 2012 will end!: Not seen anyone speak of this, but a few months ago Walgreens walked away from the discussion tables with TriCare / Express Scripts and sent a letter out to all their pharmacies stating that after the first of the year, they will no longer cover any plan for any military families of TriCare or Express Scripts. Posted by ScottsSpot I have to wonder why anyone would get their regular meds from a participating pharmacy and not via mail order from Express Scripts. Express Scripts has a pharmacy finder to replace Walgreens on their TMOP page once you log in. It helps you to locate a participating pharmacy in your area. Besides, why would one use a pharmacy when mail order is cheaper. For the price of a month's refil at a local pharmacy, you can receive three months supply through mail. And generics are free because they save the government money. Rates for both generic and brand names has gone up at retail outlets. |

In Response to Re: Walgreens dropping customers - ALL TriCare & ESI Coverage as of January 1, 2012 will end!: Looks like there are two sides to the story! without the details about what the arrangement is and that proposed it's hard to decide right and wrong. I didn't know that Tri Care made "arrangements" with pharmacies. Are there subsidies involved? Who is ESI? Karl Posted by krlklar The Department of Defense has a rebate system with drug companies apparently to lower their cost of our prescriptions.

Karl Posted by krlklar That is true...but...I only use participating pharmacies for one time meds...that is the way the system is designed to work. But for meds meant to be for maintenance, it saves the individual and the government money to use the mail order system. Meds bought in bulk are cheaper. Bottom line by using mailorder [I have my meds within a few days] I save myself and the government money.

Karl Posted by krlklar Express Scripts holds the contract for managing DOD's prescription program. Here is some info on the dispute: http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/07/military-walgreens-may-leave-tricare-drug-network-071311w/ "Express Scripts is “asking [Walgreens] to be competitive with their peers,” spokesman Thom Gross said. “Our position is, they are a high cost provider … they have to be cost competitive." "Walgreens handles 90 million prescriptions worth about $5.3 billion in annual sales through Express Scripts." Seems to me that Walgtreens is being a little greedy. Personally I don't care for our local Walgreens anyway and prefer other pharmacies. Neither do I use Walmart who is also a participating pharmacy.

In Response to Re: Walgreens dropping customers - ALL TriCare & ESI Coverage as of January 1, 2012 will end!: speaking of tri care/medicare, where is and under, what US Judical code number, requiring retired military at age 65 having to drop tri-care prime @ $40/ month rate for spouse and retiree and making it a requiriment them to accept medicare plus part b to be covered under tri-care for life at $115 / per just for the retiree and no spouse. and when the spouse turns 65 they must also partake iin medicare and its part b provision again at $115/mnth. Now this same veteran is is having to coverthe same amount of medical insurance he had at $40/mnth with $230/Mnth on fixed income .IS this fair? This is age discrimination and is another act of broken promises to those who swore a oath defend, protect, and serve our country by our government and its elected representatives. When Tri-care representatives wrer asked questions all they would sreply AND I QUOTE " IT's The Law" What law.... UNDER WHAT US code.... and who wrote It... AND THIS WAS NOT CHALLENGED ....WHAT A FARCE THAT THOSE WHO SERVED... SERVED ALARGE PART OF THEIR LIVES IN A CAREER ... ONLY AGAIN LOOSE SOMETHING PROMISED... IS THIS ALSO CONSIDERED AN ENTITLEMENT. iF SO... THEN THOSE WHO SERVED ARE ENTITLED TO WHAT WAS AGREED UPON UNDER THEIR CONTRACT BY THOSE WHO DEMANDED AN OATH TO DEFEND AND PROTECT THE UNITED STATES . Posted by steteri I for one am happy to be covered by TRICARE FOR LIFE even though it means having to carry Medicare Part B. I have greater flexibility as to doctors and specialists that I can see without having to get authorizations. Just be happy that we have this coverage because with the budget hacking, they are talking about reducing it. If you're not happy with it, contact your congressperson. |
