In Response to VOUCHER PROGRAM: Our congress is going to go on a voucher program to show us how it's done and then will do away with their socialist pension program too. (FAT CHANCE OF THAT !!! ) Medicare would be turned into a voucher program by those in DC who would lock arms to destroy medicare. This would be great for insurance companies -- but it would require seniors to pay more. And with so many living on a fixed income, this could leave them with nowhere to turn. A program like that wouldn’t be fair to millions of seniors who rely on Medicare for their economic security. The Republicans don't want the general fund to contribute to medicare any longer.....I suppose then the general fund could provide more funding for the Pentagon ? Or we need to get rid of medicare so we can solve the debts without removing tax benefits to the already wealthy . We're not "broke." Big corporations and the wealthiest Americans are making more money - and a higher percentage of America's total income - than ever. Medicare is critical to the retirement security of millions. It is a promise we made nearly half a century ago. Posted by JANMB We already have voucher programs that many seniors seem ot like - only difference is that Medicare is paying for the voucher instead of giving it to seniors directly - but seniors still get to CHOOSE which is the best option for them. Examples: 1. Medicare Advantage plans and many seniors pay NO premiums for their CHOICE of the plan. 2. Medicare D (the prescription drug program) - seniors pick their plan based on their area and need; they pay their premiums and Medicare oversees the programs with the general rules & support. Seniors have clout in numbers - especially now when there is such a great influx of the younger side of "senior" - Competition among private insurers for our business could open new doors for us with coverage while keeping the price down. If this type of plan is considered, Traditional Medicare (government) would become just another bidder in the overall design of the program. and it would still be available for those that might want to continue it; with the understanding that the main government control of the expense of the (traditional) program comes from cutting the reimbursement rate to providers - so you better make sure you can find a doc that takes it (accepts assignment). |

In Response to Re: VOUCHER PROGRAM: Medicare WITH A true voucher PROGRAM AS INTRODUCED BY RYAN'S BUDGET whose value doesn't keep up with expected increases in healthcare costs -- thereby shifts the burden onto Medicare beneficiaries, who will have to pay an average of $6,500 a year more for their Medicare insurance, according an analysis of the Republican plan by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. The Romney-Ryan plan uses the savings to finance even bigger tax cuts for the very wealthy. Spread the word. Don't allow the GOP to get away with this. Posted by JANMB Plans introduced by both parties have a trigger - actually the same percentage of GDP + 0.5% They are offering voters a stark choice of Medicare. The constrast can be distilled down to a single, simple question: Who will be on the hook if the health care delivery system fails to limit health care cost growth – individual seniors or the government? Either way we still get the bill if health care cost don't come down. This is the best analysis that I have seem comparing the two very different plans. I know I like to make my own decisions so I guess I know which I like the best - knowing you on this forum, I think I know you like to put your faith in government. Guess that is the reason we can all vote. The Fiscal Times 08/14/2012: No Matter Who Wins, Health Care Rationing Is Coming |

Posted by JANMB The Ryan plan does a lot more than provide tax cuts to the wealthy by cutting things like loopholes out of the income tax plan that cost the government much more than changing the double taxation of company profits . The voucher plan is a choice not a mandate and doesn't affect those over the age of 55. If nothing is done to control prices and cost of health care and drugs Medicare will be a huge burden on everybody regardless of how it's paid for. |

Higher income seniors are already paying more into Parts B and D. |

I'll take the word of an Independent like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders says Paul Ryan's Voucher Healthcare Program that he wants to replace Medicare with is a " Death Sentence To Our Disabled Seniors And Children ". He also goes on to say the Voucher Program would only give you $8,000 of coverage for medical emergencies. Do you have any idea how fast $8,000 would go with any emergencies? So with the Ryan Voucher Plan, you either go without emergency medical treatment or have it and file bankrupcy. Paul Ryan has had 6 Private Healthcare Corporation Lobbyist at his office doorstep every morning for years now. He has also accepted millions in Private Insurance Corporation Donations. So who do you think Paul Ryan will take care of ? Paul Ryan's Voucher Healthcare Program is a profit maker for the Private Insurance Corporations and a Death Sentence for our Seniors and Disabled Children. We must fight to Preserve Medicare and affordable healthcare. Again I'll take an Independent's word on this one. Thank youResponse to Re: VOUCHER PROGRAM: In Response to Re: VOUCHER PROGRAM : There is also means testing in the Medicare voucher plan - those of lower income get better than those of higher income. The voucher plan is an alternative ,not a mandate. Karl |

When the pay of specialist are reduced in order to get more PCP to accept Medicaid - something is gonna give. Medicare and Medicaid will each pay their PCP's the same rate. How long do you think you are gonna have to wait to see a doc? I'll stick with private any day, any way . . . . . |

Posted by krlklar NOT AFFECTING THOSE OVER THE AGE OF 55. OKAY---just suppose it did affect you over 55 ....would you like a VOUCHER plan for yourself .... that you are wishing on our children and grandkids ? They won't thank us for throwing them under the bus when they will need these benefits more than we do now....thanks be to the depression that began in 2003. . But, you say, we may just have to renege on our commitments to pay Social Security and Medicare benefit because "we're broke" and the Federal deficit is soaring out of sight. First, of course, we're not "broke." Big corporations and the wealthiest Americans are making more money - and a higher percentage of America's total income - than ever. The fact is that if millionaires and billionaires paid taxes at the same rate they did during the Reagan Administration - and the income they earn clipping coupons on investments were taxed at the same rates as people who work for a living - that would go a long way to eliminating the deficit. |
