Here is more up to date info ... for 2011. http://www.startribune.com/business/148983575.html?refer=y
I don't think 102 million is accurate. More like 1.3 million according to the article at the link. Still not chump change. |

According to Forbes magazine, Hemsley's Total Compensation Package was $102 Million for 2010 and in 2011 he made $49 Million. Corporate CEO GREED at this level in Healthcare drives up our co - payments and premiums. The formula for Medical Loss Ratio under the PPACA was began for year 2011 by HHS. I can only trust that UHC and all insurers are following the law and that HHS is doing its part in government regulation, review and calculations. Since UHC is also a big player in the Medicare realm - Medicare Advantage, Medigap, Medicare D plans - then they may have gotten a bonus for good work under the HHS plan for MA. Some private insurers also do managed care under certain state Medicaid programs and are paid for this service - I do not know if this is the case of UHC, Of course, if you have an objection to the the way this PRIVATE company works, especially with these new regulations, you can opt NOT to participate in any of their plans. Healthcare Reform: HHS - Value for Your Premium Dollar: 80/20 Rule and MLR The refund checks, if applicable, went out from each company in July /August of 2012. From the lips of UHC: Medical Loss Ratio - Health Reform Provision: Health Plan Reporting Requirements "This provision requires insurers to report plan costs for the purpose of calculating the insurers' medical loss ratio (the percentage of insurance premium dollars spent on reimbursement for clinical services and activities to improve health care quality). Large group insurers must spend at least 85 percent of premium dollars on claims and activities to improve health care quality. Individual and small group insurers must spend at least 80 percent of premium dollars on claims and activities to improve health care quality. The calculations will be based on the aggregate experience of the issuer for each state in which the issuer is licensed. Medical cost activities that are grounded in evidence-based medicine and improve health care quality will be included in the calculations. Activities designed primarily to control or contain costs will be considered administrative." |

United Health CEO Hemsley only made a mere $49 Million in 2011. I dont know how he survived. AARP needs to stop endorsing "Obamacare" and start endorsing Congressman Conyer's HR676 ("Medicare For All"). HR676 gives everyone health coverage from birth and eliminates the 1/3 of healthcare costs charged by private companies such as United Healthcare. Rather than raising the Medicare age to 68, it needs to be lowered to birth. Check www.Healthcare-NOW.org to sign the petition to support "Medicare For All". Yes, Mayor Bloomberg, obesity is costing us plenty - but so are Wall Street health insurance companies and their grossly over-paid CEOs. We need to tell AARP and Mayor Bloomberg that HR676 is a top priority to reduce entitlement spending and provide coverage for all U.S. citizens. |
