I belong to a medicare advantage HMO. The network is pretty extensive (BC/BS), but I've heard stories of patients admitted to hospitals and getting huge bills from out of network providers that inadvertantly worked on them. Is there any way to avoid this, especially if you are an emergency admission?. We always check to make sure the doctors and labs we use are in network before we use them.
