Why is AARP running a commercial on TV implying that congress is trying to cut Social Security? Any change in Social Security that has been talked about would not apply to any AARP current members, unless you have started taking member under 50 years old. Your commercial is a lie! And you are scaring your members and people posting to this message board. You can thank President Johnson (a democrat) for destroying the SS fund when he started using it for the Federal General Fund. Even then, the money paid in was going into treasury bills (promissory notes) that would be in trouble today, because your democrat friends have run up trillions in debt buying votes. So the money we put in is gone and it is now hand to mouth funding. Our kids and our grand kids are paying for our retirement. Proud of that? I can understand why they want to opt out, because they can see that this Ponzi scheme is going to collapse and their money that they put in to support us, will be gone too. AARP supports the current administration running this crap about protecting social security and at the same time supports Obama-care, that will put us even more in debt. This organization is in the Democrat's pocket in a tit for tat arrangement. Wake up and support people that want to cut spending and get a handle on debt before we hit bottom. These people in Washington are about winning elections buying votes and no concern for anything else. MHO Skipjack68

I totally agree with Alharris, we do need single payer healthcare. The Dems didn't go far enough with this.  How can people let other people suffer, and have Insurance Cos. tell Drs. what to do. We are a great Nation, but people have gotten greedy and it seems cruel also. This country started with not for profit insurance, and this grew into profits, profits and more profits. Don't believe all you read or see on TV, do research before you vote.

Hey, Skip Jack, I think you are talking about the wrong party as far as money in the pockets of Elected officials. I have no doubt that there is corruption in Washington, but the party that has always been for the poor and middle class has always been the Democrats. Why are people so afraid of Social programs, we can still live in a capitalistic society and have socialized medicine, people are dying out there, don't you have any compassion for tham?

One can have compassion for the unfortunate and still believe that the problem is not simply how we pay for health care. Medicare is sort of a single payer system, but it has actually increased the prices and cost of health care! It doesn't pay all of the part of the medical bills that it arbitrarily "allows" and still over-runs it's premiums!
We need to get control and reduce the costs and particularly the prices of health care in this country first and then do a better job of enforcing anti-monopoly and competition limiting actions to make our health system comparable and affordable.

Well the Democrats have spent $4 trillion in 3 years, unemployment rose from 7.8% to over 9%, now 1 in 15 Americans live below the poverty level.and social programs have grown..  Seems since Obama became president, he has brain washed many to believe corporations that hire millions of Americans, pay decent wages and benefits are the evil doers instead of admitting he is bankrupting America and now wants increased revenue not to pay down the $15 Trillion national debt, but to spend more money wastefully.  Let's not forget, Obama thought it ws a joke that he approved stimulus money for shovel ready jobs that were not shovel ready. If you are against capitalism, we'll have to eliminate the auoh industry, hotels, food markets, clothing industry, toy companies, home builders, telephone companies, mc donalds, wendys, pet smart, sears, k-mart, walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Verizon, Best Buy Time Warner and the list of ther nasty corporations that create jobs go on.
