In Response to Retired Federal Employee with BCBS: I am not sure what I should do. I retired from Federal government in 2009. I kept my insurance, BCBS @ $185 per month. Of course, it rises every year. I will be eligible for Medicare in 6 months and I need to make a decision as to what I need.. If there are any retired rederal employees carrying BCBS along with their Medicare, please tell me what you carry on Medicare (Part A,B,C,D) and E. F. if there is such a thing. I am told that my SS check will be reduced by $100 for Medicare but I don't know what that covers yet. I'm still researching. I just can't seem to phrase my questions to find the answers to my searches. Help please, anybody? Call you state dept. on aging to see if they can get you help with your decision based on the best way to go using your own health criteria - medicines, conditions, etc. |

Congratulations on your retirement from the federal gov't. It's amazing how much false infromation is floating around out there regarding federal retirement benefits. All we here is how all federal govt employees enjoy free lifetime healthcare at retirement, but now we see that its just another falsehood. Good luck and enjoy your well deserved retirement. Response to Retired Federal Employee with BCBS : Posted by mandm84 Actually it is pretty much like the plan that is offered by other large employers but seniors have to determine their cost in such programs (and Medicare) since they do pay premiums for their employer plan. In other words they have to decide if staying with the employer plan is better that all the parts of Medicare - everybody has Part A (Hospital Insurance) - that is the part that you pay into while working with your payroll taxes. Parts B (Doctors) and Part D (Medications) come in a variety of ways other than through actual Medicare or Medicare programs. |
