Kaiser Family Foundation Medicare Policy Brief: Medigap Reform : Setting the Context "On September 19, 2011, as part of his deficit reduction proposal, President Obama recommended charging a 30 percent surcharge on Part B premiums to new beneficiaries that purchase Medigap policies with “near firstdollar” coverage, beginning in 2017." * *This comes from Living Within Our Means and Investing in the Future The President’s Plan for Economic Growth and Deficit Reduction - OMB Sept. 2011 Also under consideration are policy proposals that discourage first dollar coverage, set co-pays, to encourage some "skin in the game" and thus more scrutiny when it come to a beneficiary's spending their health care dollars. If you currently have a Medigap policy with first dollar coverage, you will see premium hikes much greater than in the past. |

In Response to Re: President Obama proposes MEDIGAP Surcharges on the Road Ahead: And if passed would take effect in 2017. and would add around $15 a month average to a premium. I don't need medigap cause I have a Medicare Advantage plan and happy with that for 10 years......as long as they keep on offering them and I understand enrollment increased this year. Posted by JANMB Glad you like working with a private insurance company for all your medicare needs. You still have to pay your Part B premiums - right? So if part B goes up for you, you will continue to pay a higher amount - and it might just go higher and higher. |

In Response to Re: President Obama proposes MEDIGAP Surcharges on the Road Ahead: Actually an MA plan replaces bothe Part A and Part B. So premiums are not tied to Part B at all. Obama did however pull funding for MA plans as a part of saving for Obamacare. Posted by Kileab When you enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan you are required to pay your standard monthly Medicare premiums for Part B coverage. Part B Medicare premiums must be paid directly to Medicare. |
