My husband is 65 and is still working.  I am 60. He carries insurance on both of us but if he retires he will have medicare.  I can get cobra for 18 months and then what.  I have pre-existing conditions and no one will insure me.  There have to be others in my position.  I don't want him to have to work for 31/2 more years just so I can have insurance and then get Cobra until I can get medicare.

Have you gone to the MediCare website about this?

Also, this isn't the most populated board for you to get help.  The regular AARP site has a Group called Insurance and Medicare where people will help you find your answers too.  http://www.aarp.org/online-community/groups/index.action?slGroupKey=Group1162

In what state do you live?  I live in California and there is a way to get 18 months of COBRA and 18 months of Cal-COBRA.  There are lots of conditions (like being in a "prepaid" plan like an HMO).  I think some other states, not all,  have similar programs.  That pushes it out to 3 years, so if you can trick him into working two more years then you can make it.
