If your coverage meets the AARP "equivalent " coverage you may delay signing up for Medicare, but double check because if it doesn't you will pay a penalty for signing up late.
Many insurers want you to make Medicare your primary insurer also.

If you don't get any other info here join the Insurance and Medicare group in the Community forum and post there because there is a large membership that may have more info.

Thanks Karl,  I'll post there. I'm sure it's simple but I asked at my wifes benefit coordinator and she said the check with Medicare, I checked with Medicare and they said to check with the benefit coordinator to see if I'm covered after 65.

I heard if you sign up for Part D  late---you will be penalized.     I got booted off my plan with my former employer (an insurer)    when I turned 65  and had to take medicare.   The way the country is so messed up....I would worry about the continuation of anything that is given by any  employer.

There is a penalty for late sign up ,ab added 1% per month I believe. If you are dropped by an "equivalent" coverage carrier the penalty is waived if you then sigb up for D within a short time.

I'm a 30% service connected disabled veteran. when I signed up for social security I elected not to participate in part B and D of  medicare.(I didn't think I needed the extra deduction on my check for part B.) All prescriptions cost me $8/month regardless if they are aspirin or the most expensive prescription medicine on the market. I do not have a private practice doctor. My primary care provider is a VA doctor at the VA clinic or hospital. I live approx 60 mile from my doctor. In 2010 I was diagnosed with sequamos lung cancer stage 1. Went to VA hospital and they operated and removed the cancer, then went through cemo and the total cost to me was $0, I am now cancer free after 12 months.
My question: Did I make a big mistake by electing not to participate in part B ?
