If your coverage meets the AARP "equivalent " coverage you may delay signing up for Medicare, but double check because if it doesn't you will pay a penalty for signing up late. Many insurers want you to make Medicare your primary insurer also. If you don't get any other info here join the Insurance and Medicare group in the Community forum and post there because there is a large membership that may have more info. Karl In Response to Plan B and D question: I'm retired and will be turning 65 in May 2012. My wife is 7 years younger and employed and has a good medical and drug plan through her work that covers us both.Do I need to get the plan B and D since I will still be covered by her plan. In Response to Re: Plan B and D question: Thanks Karl, I'll post there. I'm sure it's simple but I asked at my wifes benefit coordinator and she said the check with Medicare, I checked with Medicare and they said to check with the benefit coordinator to see if I'm covered after 65. John Posted by jdnglo I heard if you sign up for Part D late---you will be penalized. I got booted off my plan with my former employer (an insurer) when I turned 65 and had to take medicare. The way the country is so messed up....I would worry about the continuation of anything that is given by any employer. |

There is a penalty for late sign up ,ab added 1% per month I believe. If you are dropped by an "equivalent" coverage carrier the penalty is waived if you then sigb up for D within a short time.
