My name is Peggy I'm 61 will be 62 Aug 6th I carry all the medical insurance at my job for me and my husband who is 63 ,64 May 20th.I will be losing my job of 10 years anytime and before the endof the year for sure as we lost our contract with P&G,I am a warehouse worker and it is very hard work,Ilift wooden pallets and do very physical work on concrete floors and steel toed boots,,I;am one of the oldest still working there. But you do what you have to do. There are very few jobs in our area.Ihave carpal tunnel in both hamds and elbows, arthurites, and ostoprosis ,and alot of pain but I keep working .My husband is going in for a complete knee surgry on Nov. 3rd. he is 6'6" tall and goes about 275 lbs. He thinks he will be back to work in 2 weeks,.Though I have medical insurance for now we will only have my income while he is off and the doctor said itwill be atleast 4 to 6 weeks before he can returnto work.as a plumbing manager at our local True Value hardwarestore.. Now the thing with that is it was recently flooded out with over 10 ft of river water last month, now the place is full of mold and the building it's self was a feed mill and has been a hardware store for 98 years, family runned..All the floors are wooden and will probley hold the black mold for years, but they are determined to reopen. Anyway, what I want to say is my husband and I have worked hard physicalwork foe allour lives and now that we need help there is none there. We will have no medical insurance after Dec. ,we will be married 39 years in Dec,,we have a 20 year oldmobile home with no insurance on it as we can't afford the insurance, Our floors are in dire need of replacing in several room, and one bathtub is unusable because of cracks..We are just at that threshhold in our lives where we are getting to old to worklike we are use to and to young to give up.But we are not to proud to except help ,or advice, especially now when my job will be gone in several months..We are afraid what will happen to us after I lose my job in Dec. and if or when my husbands job will reopen,,he makes less money an hr. than Ido..We are afraid at our age to be out of insurance for medical, though we don't go to the doctors only when we reallyhave to.Most problems we self treat ourselves.I need to know what is out there for us that can help us.We don't expect something fornothing ,we have never been on welfare or assistance, and have always worked..But our bodies are wearing out because of the hard physical work we have done over the years.I willstill tryto find another job ,but no jobs in our area carries medical insurance there is only parttime jobs.and they frown on hiringanyone my age as I will be 62 soon.,and I can still work rings around most of the young people I work with.but that doesn't matter, anymore.I'm a liability at my age. Please can someone tell me what to do or give advice .Our triler is ours but we live in a court..We are country people and are proud of our work records. Please e-mail me at ladybeastmaster@yahoo.com or leave a message here ,I will be notified if anyone replies. |

I really don't know what help may be available in your location, but almost all states have aSHIP( Senior Help....) department. Check your state government website. While you may not qualify for Medicare, SSDI and Medicaid may help. See my earlier post. . Look into clinics and drug companies which may have some help. Unfortunately I don't know of any "affordable" insurance before 65. Karl In Response to Re: Need some help and advice: Like many others of 63 I am without medical insurance. Living on my SSI and unemployment until Dec. the the unemployment is done.I have been caught up in the scam of online insurance quotes, found a great deal and got relieved of my money and received no coverage. Thankfully the bank refunded me the money I lost. Is there any insurance to cover office visits/prescriptions that is affordable? My generic BP medication is $65 a month and then two others. Definately cannot afford a dental visit or eye exam. any advice? Melody Posted by vegaspeach |

See the sources posted earlier. I suspect it would cost more to get a Medicare supplement for your husband, but make sure that Medicare considers your present plan is "adequate " to avoid the penalty for late part B or D coverage if you sign up after 65. The coverages provided are shown on Medicare.gov and associated sites. Karl In Response to Re: Need some help and advice: Hi My name is Donna and I need guidance on suplement insurance. My husband has medicare but I am not yet eligible. I work full time and have BC/BS which I pay to have him covered also, which means, the BC/BS becomes primary and medicare is secondary. I need to know if it would be financially cheaper to drop him from my insurance and purchase the supplement and prescription plans AARP offers. Would he get as good of coverage by doing this? Also, if I lose my job after the first of the year, will it be too late to sign him up for the supplement as I would lose my coverage and could not afford the cobra premiums Thank you in advance for any response to me questions.
