In Response to Medicare Supplemental Insurance: The enrollment period is now over and I am still learning!! I found that Mutual Of Omaha has a supplemental plan that is #30.00 less per month and Next November will be $40.00 less!!! I also found that AARP Supplement F which I have since 2005 was "Modernzed" in 2010 and was $20.00 less. No one ever told me this!! To get into this "Modernized Plan" i would have to go thru underwriing and this "Modernized Plan" is still $14.00 more than Mutual Of Omah. I know AARP sells the use of its name but I did not expect too get ripped off. Posted by brianponyboy THANKS FOR THAT TIDBIT...../WE JUST RESIGNED FOR THE YEAR 2012. MY HUSBAND JUST TURNED 65 JUNE2011/ I TURN 65 THIS APRIL..I MAY RESEARCH THIS. I AGREE ONE WOULD THINK AARP WOULD GET THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. WE HAVE ONLY HAD 3 SMALL CLAIMS AND TODAY I JUST FOUND OUT THAT ONE OF OUR CLAIMS WILL NOT BE PAID. IT IS FOR A TETNUS SHOT THAT HIS DR. SAID HE SHOULD GET SINCE IT HAD BEEN OVER 10 YEARS. MEDI CARE DOES NOT PAY UNLESS YOU GET UNJURED AND SO NEITHER DOES AARP....... |

Think of the advantage that he got from following the docs order - now if he steps on a rusty nail years from now, you only have to remember that he got it and when. Docs do a great job in selling services of this kind when they know they will get an added dollar benefit from your pocket. Who's in charge of your health and wellbeing - you or your insurance? Be that Medicare & Supplemental coverage or under a Medicare Advantage Plan. ALL the insurance that I have ever had gives specific instructions on what IS and IS NOT covered. Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan is NO different, it is spelled out pretty specifically. Normally, a Medicare supplemental ONLY pays their percentage on the ALLOWABLE Medicare charges, If it is NOT covered under the Medicare plan, then it is not covered under the supplemental plan. Medicare Advantage is more akin to private insurance plans with many rules set in place by Medicare (HHS) - the insurer may add some perks to entice you and it could be that a MA plan is better for your overall coverage depending upon other deciding factors. As with any choices in health insurance coverage, you should understand it completely, be that all parts of Traditional Medicare- Part A,B, D,etc., a supplemental policy to Medicare coverage or a MA plan. You should have few surprises in what is and what is not covered if you understand your coverage completely. |

In Response to Re: Medicare Supplemental Insurance: SO.....AARP WHAT IS YOUR ANSWER TO THIS POST? DO YOU HAVE A REBUTTAL? Posted by torchy616 Enrollment in a Medicare Supplement Plan is not normally subject to the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period. You can usually make changes throughout the year. The rates of the AARP Medicare Supplement Plans are based on claims experience, projected medical inflation, and the loss ratio. The loss ratio is determined by the difference between the amount received in premiums as compared to the amount paid in claims, along with the projected premiums and claims for the following year. Once the loss ratio has been calculated, rates are adjusted for each state and area. AARP has an independent actuarial firm review the rates to ensure that they are based on sound assumptions of use and cost by program participants. The Trustees of AARP Health Care Options must also review and approve the rates, taking into consideration United HealthCare’s recommendations and the opinion of the actuarial firm. Once the Trustees approve the rates, they are presented to each State Insurance Commissioner for final approval. Please keep in mind that AARP Health Care Options is a group program. Rates are calculated on the state or area level, not on an individual basis. Any rate change will apply to all members living in your area who have the same plan as you. Medicare Part B covers vaccines to prevent flu, pneumonia, and hepatitis B (if the person is at medium or high risk). It will also cover other immunizations only if the person has been exposed to a disease or condition. This includes tetanus if the person has stepped on a rusty nail. Otherwise, a tetanus booster should be covered under a Medicare Part D Plan. If you have a Medicare Part D Plan, you should check with them to see how to submit the claim. If you would like to discuss your specific questions on the AARP Medicare Supplement Plans, please send an email to member@aarp.org or contact AARP at 1-888-687-2277. |
