Just a little about life, social security and medicare and probably medicaid too.
Because of my mother's condition & care level, she can no longer stay in the memory care unit of her assisted living.  She is total care.

To keep her out of a nursing home, I have the option of putting her in a personal care home that has been recommended by Hospice.

I went to see it today and it is nice and I like the lady running the place.  The rate is basically what I have been paying so that is good  -  a little over $ 3500 per month.
There are (5) ladies in the home now; my mother will make (6) -  all are private payers.

Here is the life lesson -
At 90, my mother will be the YOUNGEST of the group.

Now I want each of you to think about how this is going to escalate in numbers when all us baby boomers begin to age.
Add in the fact that many have not planned for this sort of expense down the road.

So just start thinking about how much all our children and grandchildren are gonna have to pay in taxes just to keep all us old (and really old) baby boomer fed, changed and bathed, long after our fun part of retirement is over.

Kicking future members (under 55) out of medicare...that Ryan's budget proposes how does that solve anything  ?
75% of Part B plan's costs does come now from the fed's general fund.
HOWEVER....FOUR countries in the world's top 10 richest received USA foreign aid with China receiving $27.2m, India $126.6m, Brazil $25m, and Russia $71.5m.. To name a couple others... Mexico also received $316.7m and Egypt $255.7m......
My point is.....If we can afford to give away this many dollars to these countries (some like China who then buy our debts w/treasuries) and have our richest people in the USA get tax welfare and we give corporate-welfare....then the USA can afford ANYTHING that it prioritizes.

From cradle to grave the republicans are on attack on the black president who decided that people in this bountiful America deserved the right to seek and get medical attention if they are sick without going bankrupt, suffering or dying.

However I will say that  what is truly unrealistic for our future..... is imagining that we can provide universal and affordable healthcare in a MARKET BASED SYSTEM FOR PROFIT.    Now that we got a start with what some call Obamacare or Healthcare reform we do need to go next to  one-payer system.

What are you talking about ?  My post has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with medical care - my mother and these other ladies need personal and custodial care.

With the block grants to states for Medicaid under the Republican plan, certain states think that they might be able to enforce the filial support laws.

New York Times:  09/07/2012  With Medicaid, Long-Term Care of Elderly Looms as a Rising Cost

". . . . uncharted territory if Republicans carry out their plan to replace Medicaid with block grants that cut spending by a third over a decade.

The move would let states change minimum eligibility, standards of care, and federal rules that now protect adult children from being billed for their parents’ Medicaid care."
