In Response to health insurance cost: I just have a question that maybe someone can help me with. I will be turning 65 in a few months and I need some imput on which would be the cheapest way to go. Currently my wife and I are self employed and have to buy health insurance for both of us. My question is when I turn 65 would it be cheaper for me to go with medicare plus a supplimental insurance and my wife go with a single health policy? I have indivdual health insurance with Oxford. My medicare starts in a few months and I compared the rates. It's a huge savings for me to the tune of $550 bucks a month saving for a single plan! I went with an AARP medicare supplement plan C because I prefer to not have to deal with a network of Dr's. If I had gone with an Advatange plan I would have saved an additional $200 bucks. IIf you live in or near a major city, the best bet is going with a Medicare Advantage plan. I belong to the BC/BS Medicare HMO in Downstate NY. I pay nothing in addition to Medicare part B, get drug coverage and don't have to go through the hassle of filling out forms. My wife is still covered by my retiree medical (until she is Medicare eligible). n Response to health insurance cost: I just have a question that maybe someone can help me with. You can compare Medicare Advantage plans with either Medicare.gov's online site or ExtendHealth.com's online tool. IMHO the Extend Health site is easier to navigate and if you have questions about any of the plans their customer service is there to give you advice. There are many variables involved in getting the best possible coverage for your needs and it's invaluable to have resources like comparison tools to detail it all out. |
