We have AARP Dental Insurance Delta Dental. I've had secobd thoughts about this insurance. Supposedly it's supposed to pay 50% of the costs for most dental work-fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions etc. One of my crowns came loose, with a post attached. My dentist was able to place a longer post into the crown and recement it into the tooth. Delta claimed that the cost of the post was not a covered expense???? Furthermore they claimed that the amount I owed the dentist was the much higher amount he charged rather than their contracted amount. I called Delta and spoke to a very sympathetic customer service rep. She told me she would have someone in charge of sending out disbursements contact me. I was contacted by this very nasty woman that would not offer any explanation. She clearly had an attitude problem. I'm mulling over dropping the plan at the end of my coverage period and going to a noninsurance discount plan. Instead of paying Delta $114/month, I'd pay about $15/month and know up front what I get. As it is we've paid in more than we received.

I recently got a quote directly from the Delta Dental (DD) website...then I got a quote from the AARP dental website. It turned out the AARP DD quote was a much higher premium than the DD website quote. I called AARP to see if there was any significant upgrades from DD if I purchased it at the higher rate. The response was "we do not know". I would recommend you do your homework in order to get the best premium if you decide to go with DD......
