Several times in the last few weeks while taking insurance information, health care providers have asked me why I have Medicare.  I don't ever remember having been asked this before.  We finally decided that the answer, for me, was that I have Medicare because I am old enough.  I'm really curious about why they are asking this.  Does anyone know? My Mother lives in NC and gets this question when making an appt.  apparently they are limiting their Medicare patients due to the reimbursement received but all managed care programs pay the doctors on Medicare guidelines maybe a few pennies more - I hope this is not a trend everywhere.  I live in Fla and have not been asked this question upon making an appt.  Should be illegal!!!

Can anyone please tell my why every year it is a nightmare finding an insurance policy that meets our needs.  Doctors and hospitals drop carriers, formularies change and do not cover our meds.or if they do the tiers have gone up to high !! I can't seem to find a plan that has all my doctors and hospitals and forget the meds.  When you have a serious illness the way the insurance industry works is a true nightmare.  The supplementary insurance is so expensive, if you have a husband and wife with Part D plans and supplementary coverage that is a hugh chunk of money every month.  Is there any action by anyone being done about this - love to know who to complain to -

I CAN'T HELP BUT POST TO THIS----

Prior to Medicare, “about one-half of America’s seniors did not have hospital insurance,” “more than one in four elderly were estimated to go without medical care due to cost concerns,” and one in three seniors were living in poverty. Today, nearly all seniors have access to affordable health care and only about 14 percent of seniors are below the poverty line.

Moreover, a recent survey from the Commonwealth Fund, found that “elderly Medicare beneficiaries reported greater overall satisfaction with their health coverage, better access to care, and fewer problems paying medical bills than people covered by employer-sponsored plans.” In fact, Medicare is so popular that most Americans support expanding Medicare coverage to Americans aged 55 to 64.

Hi my real name is Tammy. Just last year I became disabled with Rheumatoid Arthritis and I do collect SSDI. I lived in Nevada for over 20 years until last August I returned back to California to be near my son and four grandchildren. Living in California means that my medical insurance is with Medi-Cal.  According to Social Security I must be disabled for 2 years before I can get Medicaid, that will be January 2014. In the meantime, CA also has the people who collect welfare on the Medi-Cal plan as well. Anyways, if I was on welfare I would have all medical doctor visits, specialists and prescriptions paid for. However, until Jan. 2014 Medi-Cal has a shared plan of craziness which means that they want me to pay over $1,000.00 per month and every month before Medi-Cal will pay for anything else. ARE THEY NUTS? I make more than that but not even close to even to live on. So I can't pay for any hospital stays or doctor visits but I MUST pay cash for all of my prescriptions or the pain is so extreme that I wouldn't be able to handle it. I should have stayed in Nevada I guess.

Anyways, I have a question that I can not seem to find anywhere on this site. How old do I have to be in order to join AARP?  I am 50 years old.
