Lipitor (atorvastatin) went generic at the end of November. Usually when drugs go generic, the first generic manufacturer gets a six month "exclusive", so the price doesn't drop much (typically 20%). It's only six months later (June 2012) when multiple manufacturers can compete by offering the generic version that the generic price really drops. Costco now shows 100 pills, 10mg for $37 and change. I'd say that this was quite a drop. (Costco is also the go-to place for simvastatin - Zocor generic.) For some reason, prices for simvastatin remain significantly higher elsewhere, and the same may continue to be true for atorvastatin. But the prices should still be well below May's price within a few weeks. Here's a post on the Times Union (Albany) site that says much the same thing: http://blog.timesunion.com/johnmcdonald/lipitor-and-plavix-generic-look-out-for-falling-drug-prices/1855/ |

In Response to Re: AARP / Pfyzer still stealing our money. No New pricing on Lipitor generic: My husband and I are in same boat. I believe I read the price is supposed to move down in november but I am not positive. Pfizer has lots of incentive to string this out as long as possible to keep patients covinced that staying the course is best route instead of a generic. Posted by watercraft43 You think it's really Pfizer drugs made in USA ? I tried to find out where some prescription drugs were made I was taking and came up with nothing. Many drugs are made in China, Pakistan, India and now Affghanistan is making prescription drugs so if you are getting them "cheaper" chances are ....well you have a clue where they came from don't you ? . Dubbed a "secondary market." regulators say some have put fake, stolen or adulterated products into the nation's drug supply. During the 1980s and 1990s, the law was used to prosecute not only the military-industrial complex, but the medical-industrial complex, as well. Pharmaceutical companies, private hospital chains and nursing homes have paid out billions of dollars in penalties. Courts have repeatedly narrowed the scope of False Claims Act suits starting with year 2000. |
