There is a way for adults to learn to swim, with an approach that truly understands how to gently overcome fears. In my first class, i went from trembling in shallow water to being in the deep end at the end of the week. By the second class I could jump into the deep end. Many adults have had similar experiences, overcoming their fear of the water, with Melon Dash's approach. Check out the website for "Miracle Swimming": http://www.conquerfear.com/ |

In Response to Re: Swimming - why it is never too late learn: I learned to swim 2 years ago at age 64. That was one of the biggest achievements of my life. I had the best teacher in the world, a senior like me. The key to learning is a good teacher. I enjoy swimming and it helps my joint pains. I say all seniors should do something in the water. Posted by mygalsal146 It is very reassuring to read your post as I am your age, 64, and used to be very active and danced all my life until I had cancer which was followed by other health problems. Today, I have a difficult time bending, standing from sitting and after many attempts at dancing I decided that learning to swim would be the best exercise overall that I should do. I'm scared of putting my face under water but if I have a good teacher, I think I can do it! I have pain 24 hrs/day in one arm but I do better when I move. The buoyancy of the water will also help with enhancing circulation in my legs. Now it is the hunt for a swimming class near where I live. I don't think I'm too old to learn but I think that with the condition of my body it is the most sensible and the best exercise I should do. I agree with you that "all seniors should do something in the water". Thank you again mygalsal146,I needed you to remind me of this! |
