Sorry I couldn't tell where to post this, so here we go. I'm a journalism student, and I'm trying to write a paper on the issue of senior driving as a whole. I just have 4 quick questions and if anyone could just write me back a quick answer for each that'd be great.

Okay, so this is what I need to know:

Do you personally believe seniors on the road are that big of an issue?

Do you find the DMV standards, such as periodic eye test, and other examinations fair?

Do you belive that doctors have any place in forwarding you, or other seniors to the DMV?

And finally what other laws, if any do you think should be implemenented to keep yourselves, and others safe on the road?

If anyone wishes to respond just post it back on the forum, or message me, but don't forget to include your name (first name only is fine) and your wherabouts.

Seniors driving is a big issue, since night vision deteriorates as we age, and it is up to the seniors to recognize this and stop driving at night. The DMV does not have to do this, and doctors do not have to do this. Family members must be aware that their elderly relatives can not drive at night, and offer to drive them.

I quit driving at night.  Anyone with half a brain should know when they cannot see to drive at night.  Failing that someone would have to tell them and maybe for the safety of everyone else on the road should report it to the DMV.
Doctors yes,  they owe it to the rest of us.
Personally I hate the tattle tale aspect, but really - lives are at stake here.

Yes there are other reasons some seniors should not drive at all.  One time when getting my license renewed I saw an old man walking with a cane - that is he was barely able to walk.  It is terrifying to thnk that there are people on the  road with such disabilities that they cannot react to emergency situations.

Really, there has to be some sort of physical fitness requirement.
