It would be nice to know what country actually is manufacturing our medications. We too often see manufactured for and distributed by but do not know what country the drug was produced? Additionally, last year there were 3 million medication errors resulting in 100,000 unncessary deaths. As a clinical pharmacist I lecture on these topics and have saved lives. Any ideas?

Ranbaxy, the company given the exclusive right for six months to manufacture and sell generic Lipitor is an Indian company (Indian as in Asia) and its drugs are manufactured in India.  (Pfizer, Inc. also sells Lipitor to Watson Laboratories to resell as a gemeric.)  I think a lot of our drugs are now manufactured in India and China -- like almost everything else.  The WTO is right now attempting to essentially overturn an American law that provides that country of origin information must be on our food.  Any guesses as to whether it will be successful?  We're going backwards instead of forward on information availability to the public and Congress's attack on the internet (SOPA) will make it even worse!  We need to contact our senators and reprresentatives instead of just complaining on message boards!  DO SOMETHING!!

The day that Ranbaxy was to come out with generic Lipitor they failed an FDA inspection and after a fine of 450 million dollars they got approval. Ten percent of drugs in pharmacies are counterfeit and between 50 to 60 percent via the internet are fake. Having spent over 40 years in the pharmaceutical industry they are as UNETHICAL as can be.
