In Response to Re: Medicare Health Care Reform - Accountable Care Organizations: I am supposed to trust the government in setting up a program like this along with hospitals, insurance companies, and doctors. Am I supposed to think that all of these have my health as first concern. We know that insurance companies and hospitals are very profitable and when they are short of money they pass the costs to us. We have a congress that cannot even pass a budget even with a special committee set up with a deadline. They must think we are nuts. May sound good on paper, but they will be profitable however expect your medical care to go down. No way do I want this enacted. Posted by JimR45 YES you should trust the GOVT of WE THE PEOPLE MORE. EXAMPLE In Massachusetts, , premiums soared after the state passed a mandate in 2000, in part because of a secret deal between the state’s largest insurer and its largest hospital chain. The Boston Globe, December 28) Posted by JANMB Do you think we should have the GSA oversee the expenditures of medical funds so they can control costs for us. We have a Congress that cannot pass a budget, a president who cannot admistrate his executive responsibilities, and a Supreme Court that wants to legislate rather than adjudicate. The government collected Social Security for years from me and now they suggest it may be undefunded in part because of mishandling and during the time of crisis a President advocates a tax cut by decreasing social securty taxe. Regarding Medicare the president plans on stealing 1/2 trillion dollars to support a bankrupt medical program which will colla[se the economy. Someone told me he will get the money by correcting abuses, but that is still medicare money not a bank at his disposal. His medical program should be found to be unconstitutional on individua, religious and states rights issues. Now tell me truthfully, were you joking? |

I think the time to experiment with new Medicare health care delivery and payment systems is BEFORE the law was passed. |

In Response to Re: Medicare Health Care Reform - Accountable Care Organizations: On my supplemental insurance I went with Plan F but with an additional option to use certain hospitals that agreed to Blue Cross's plan. This only applies to scheduled hostpital care and my doctors are at 2 hospitals. The one that would not opt into Blue Cross's program is one that just spent a fortune on a new hospital with a garden and nice displays with 42 inch tv.s in the room. I think my concern is more hospital emergency care with a more reasonable price and not amenities. In my area hospitals are going on a buildiing spree since they can in an area that can afford this waste. Some people are drawn into these new facilities, but your life will not be saved by the size of a tv or how pretty a hospital is. It is more important to have good doctors and needed equipment. I would say nobody is controlling these costs since so much money is being spent where it is not necessary. Maybe we need to take away the nonprofit category from some of these. Posted by JimR45 You are correct that our hospital systems are building extremely expensive facilities, and the price goes up as these buildings do. I am not sure that we can trust the government today to control costs while maintaining a good health care system. I do think, however, that the VA system is a good example of a working system, where care is affordable, and distributed fairly. Can't we use this system to build a better one? Only the wealthy with great insurance are able to afford this one. And, those benefits are quickly disappearing. |
