I am 68 years young. I was recently told my cholesteral if 84, but should be at 70.
Does this fish oil stuff really work?

I was also told my calcium level is too high. I want to change my eatng habits once and
for all. I would like to loose 70 lb.

I need some good encouragement along with good encouoraging news.

Ms just getting started, and will never give up.

I started on a plant based diet on Sept. 1 of this year. I eat NO oil, No meat, fish or chicken, and no calcium products or salt. So far my weight has dropped 13 pound and my blood pressure has fallen below normal. My annual checkup is soon and I will see how much my cholesterol has dropped. If you wish to find out more about this diet read: "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease". It is a restrictive diet but  well worth trying if you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. You will have to read the labels on all foods that you buy and get used to not using salt or oil. It is best to get your total cholesterol below 170. Ten years ago my cholesterol was 375 and with the use of statin drugs I have kept it between 180 and 200. I hope to drop it at least 30 more points with this diet and perhaps get off the stain.

Just found your post.  My bad cholesteral did go down using the fishoil.  I take two 1200's twice a day.  I shall never be on a statin drug again; it almost did me in.  I hope you're doing well changing your eating habits.

Years ago, my mother was told her cholesteral was too high and she was given a list of foods she didn't want to eat.  I knew it was her frozen dessers from the grocery that she she was unwilling to give up more than anything.  So I got her a bottle of Hain Expeller-Pressed Safflower Oil, and had her add 1 tbsp to her morning orange juice.  Three months later, her doctor was amazed to find her cholesteral levels were fine.  The safflower oil has an acid that neutralizes the cholesteral, binds with it, and is eliminated via the digestive system.  I've noticed that Hollywood brand also has a cold-pressed safflower oil.  Cold or expeller pressing retains all the natural nutrients.

I got my cholterol down with statins, but after a few years I began to get addled easily.  My doc took me off statins, my confusion went away, and my cholesteol stayed low without meds. I took  fishoil during that whole period of several years, mostly becaused do not like most fish, especially saltwater. I'd like to know if brook trout have the same good fats as sea trout.  Does anyone know?

Cholesterol is correlated with cardio vascular disease, but arterial plaques have a higher correlation.

Studies on primates have shown that saturated fats are most likely to cause arterial plaques. Monounsatured fats are no worse than carbohydrates, and polyunsaturated fats are the least likely to form arterial plaques.

So avoid trans fats, coconut oil, palm oil, butter fat, and beef fat.

Olive oil doesn't contain any omega 3 fatty acids, so use canola oil, walnut oil, or soybean oil instead. Omega 3 fatty acids act as an anti-inflammatory. Omega 6 is an essential fatty acids that should be in your diet and is present in most liquid oils except olive oil.

There are 3 main types of omega 3 fatty acids; ALA, EPA, and DHA. The body has a limited ability to convert those, but DHA is considered to be the most protective and is essential for the brain and is generally only available from fish.
