Mah-Jongg Stategy??

I really enjoy playing Mah-Jongg but am wondering if there is an actual strategy to this game.  I must be brain dead or blind, can't seem to score the high points that other players do!  Tha

Does anyone know what site I can play  Mah-Jongg for free?  I'd like to be able to play this game in "leisure" time.

Thanks.

In Response to Re: Mah-Jongg Stategy?? : Thank you so much for your advice!  My scores aren't any higher cause I gave up playing, too frustrating!  Will try to remember your pointers and play again.  I just discovered your reply to my post; wasn't looking in the right place.  Kept checking my original post for a reply.  Not until I did a "Mah-Jongg" search did I see what you've written.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one frustrated by this game; sometimes I don't feel good about myself.

There is an annoying need to play with the screen before each game. Even with a full screen when the "blue" box appears it's natural to use the mouse to adjust the window so it's centered. But then there's another "gray" screen that also needs adjusting. To top it off, if you don't log in then you have to wait for the brief ad (5 seconds). By the time I get to the game I'm not mentally ready to begin. I'm irritated before the game even starts. Not as much adjustment to the screen would be needed if AARP removed their banners.

But this is really a game of "chance", in that every deal is different. You never know when the tile you need is going to be blocked in on another side. When this occurs to many tiles on a side and you begin turning the stack, valuable time is lost. It's nice to have the mouse pointer show the hidden tile facing in another direction but that doesn't always work. I've found that if 1, 2 or even 3 sides don't have any obvious matches, most times at least 1 side will have multiple matches.

Another thing that helps me to "see" the tiles is to center my line of vision to take in the "whole" stack and look for differences on the edge of sight (just like in Martial Arts when viewing an opponent's whole body). Directly looking at each tile requires a good memory to make matches. By the time I see a tile and turn the stack to see if there's another on the next side, I've forgotten what tile it was?

All in all, I love this game! That is if I can get past the annoying part. So I log in now and that helps some. Thanks for reading,
Laughing

MJ Toy Chest scores in the following ways: 4 of the same tile in a row - 50 points 8 of the same suite in a row - 200 points two matches in 4 seconds - 30 points three matches in 6 seconds - 60 points four matches in 8 seconds - 90 points five matches in 10 seconds - 120 points six matches in 12 seconds - 200 points all the bears in a row - 200 points all the books in a row - 500  points 4 tiles consecutively on the same tower - 500 Shapes: Value 1     Orange Block     Blue Block     Red Heart     Orange Heart     Blue Star     Lavender Star     Yellow Hat     Blue Hat Toys: Value 2     Bowtie  Maj     Purple Engine     Green Engine     Orange Ball     Soccer Ball     Red Car     Gold Car     Hat with propeller     Bowtie Dolls: Value 3     Bug     Fish     Glove     Number one     Blue Fish     Gold Fish     Rainbow colored Fish     Penguin     Tree Books: Value 4     Green, Gold, Blue Fragile Toys: Value 5     Camera     Cell Phone     Guitar Present: Value 6     Present Teddy Bear: Value 7     Teddy Bear Keeping all this in mind as you play is not easy. I find that making the matches very fast is the best way to achieve a high score. Also I find that some of the configerations are easier to score highly with and I use these. I like World Snake, Twin Peaks, Celtic, and Spiral but this may be a prejudice on my part. I do think its good to play only a few configerations as you become familar with where the tiles are located and this allows you to move faster in making the matches. In order to make the leaderboard you will have to make at least 8,000 before getting you time bonus points. You will need about 2 minutes of bonus points as most of the scores in the Leaderboard are in the 9,000 range. Do not touch the little penguins on the right that hold the points. It you do you will lose some points. If there are two pairs remaining at the end of the game and one pair is the guitars that rotate the tiles-- choose the guitars first. If the rotating guitars are the last pair then the clock will continue running while your score is totaled and you will lose some time bonus points.
