I really enjoy playing Mah-Jongg but am wondering if there is an actual strategy to this game.  I must be brain dead or blind, can't seem to score the high points that other players do!  Tha

Okay, you posted that message over a week ago and probably if you've kept playing, I bet you're getting higher scores now.  I think the key to that mah-jonng game is the first screen, and you have to try to think one or two steps ahead of what you're clicking on, and you have to complete that first screen in one long sweep, so after the last two squares are matched, the screen briefly reads "SPEED MATCH - BONUS 32" - meaning you have matched all 32 sets of pairs one after the other, with no lagging between.  When I play that first screen, if I don't get through all 32 matches like that, like if I hesitate or slow down after, say, "SPEED MATCH - BONUS 8" or whatever, and I stop getting the bonuses, I quit the game and start over. The high scores people get are based on those multiple matches, and also the time you're saving by plowing through that first screen as efficiently as possible. So generally, I am finishing the first screen with somewhere between 15,000 and 17,000 points. Then, on the second screen, I try to do the same for as long as I can, but I can't do it for the whole screen.  Usually I get hung up after about fifteen or twenty quick matches, and then I'm just trying to finish. But I can usually do so with enough time to finish the third screen, though it's often cutting it close.

The mah jong game featured on line is entirely different from the regular mah jong game played according to the official rules. The on-line game merely consists of matching two pictures or symbols..  However, the trick is to be able to match the corresponding tiles that are both in the top positions.  In other words, one symbol may be located at the top of the pile, and its mate can be visible, but buried beneath other tiles.  The regular official game requires a good deal more strategy than merely matching tiles, and I believe there are interactive competitive games on line.  However, for the simplified version, just keep trying to bring both matching tiles to the position where they can both be eliminated.  Each successful match earns a certain amount of points.  Don't worry if you can't get a high score right away.  It does take some practice, and like the old saying goes, practice makes perfect ---well, in the case of mah jong, almost.  Good luck!

the one I play doesn't give 'points', just score by best time.  With some pracrice I got mine down to 4 min, 30 sec. and that's the best I can do.  I often play just to try to sharpen my mind.......btw --I'm quite elderly so gotta keep the old mind going some way!

I see from these posts that most people do not just play the game for fun. They need all the strategies and are so serious about scores and such........................ too bad. I do hope they all do as well in life as I believe I have. Enjoy the game it's fun. Being first only gives you being first. Don't spend all your time and energy competing. Take time to enjoy the fresh air, scenery, flowers and camaraderie with the other racers. Loosen up....relax... and enjoy.

Okay, nice try, wrong Mah-Jongg.  I play with 3 other people, using the National Mah Jongg League Card for 2011, to play hands on the card with tiles, on a card table.  The Mah-Jongg you speak of is a match game.  Thanks.

I got a sore shoulder and neck between the tension  and anxiety of trying to bet my greatgrand daughter !!!!!  I gave up on the speed and just played for enjoyment but I do agree that the very first  part of the game is gets easier to play and is important.
I had to stop for a week and nurse my shoulder and neck with vibration and heat.  It still is not comfortable but Mah-Jongg is adictive !!!!!!!    MBWC

I agree with some of the posters regarding Mah-Jongg and the timer.

I am in total agreement that this game should be given an option to play against the timer.  I have never completed Stage 3 and would just like to play it to get a feel of this.  Been playing this for 3 months now and not where I want to be.

I've learned to turn down my volume so that stress of the countdown doesn't distract me.  Seems like as soon I see the points going to 5 seconds, I just stop playing.  Too much stress I guess - LOL.

Would you consider taking off the timer on Mah-Jongg?

Thanks and looking for toplaying  Mah-Jongg if this is done.
