I currently hold the highest score in Cryptogram and it occurred due to some internet or AARP glitch. I had noticed that morning before I began playing that several people were getting higher than normal scores. I began playing and it was as if everything had slowed to a crawl. The clock was barely moving. When I looked at the Leaderboard there were a lot of unbelievably high scores in other games. I understand that this has happened before several times. The quickest I have been able to do a Cryptogram is 13 seconds. I agree that they should be scored based on the individual puzzle but I don't see that happening as it would involve redesigning the game. I would love to see some new games. In Response to IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: AARP's site should be improved by freshening the content of the existing games. For example, Cryptogram, Spellbound, Sudoku, and Word Search cycle through the same set of puzzles repeatedly. I know there are more sayings (Cryptogram), seven-letter words (Spellbound), grids (Sudoku), and ten-element categories (Word Search) than AARP uses. Quit turning these games into memory tests as opposed to problem-solving opportunities. Also, attention should be paid to the scoring systems for some of these games. For Cryptogram, the length of the puzzle/number of letters required should factor in, not just start at 1000 and deduct 1 point for each second. And prevent ridiculous scores like 996 - no one can type that fast no matter how short the puzzle - they must be disabling the timer somehow. Similarly, the point totals for 6 minute Spellbound and 4 minute Word Search are not feasible without use of technical shenanigans. Posted by rpzld55 |

In Response to Re: IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: Since website was redesigned and the games appear between two columns, I find the playing field too small to read. On Mahjongg Mom t he tiles have been shrunken a nd my browser's zoom does not change it at all. Also, I am unable to use Firefox to visit this website, as the text is spread all over the page, superimposed one on the other. No problem in IE though, other than the smaller game field. Hope these issues will be looked into. Posted by gramfinn Dear gramfinn, Sorry to hear you are having difficulties. Have you tried using the Ctrl and "+" keys simultaneously to raise the size of your viewing page? Ctrl, is found on the bottom left of your keyboard, and the plus key is found at the upper right, just next to the backspace bar. |

In Response to Re: IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: I agree. I love playing Mahjong but the tiles are sooo tiny it is not enjoyable to play. And you know, our eyesight is not the greatest as we age! Posted by Pajarito You can enlarge the view on any of the games by hitting the Control (Command on Macs) plus the + key. This will bring up the size of the page in increments. To reduce the size hit the Control and the - (minus) key. To return to the actual size hit the control key plus 0 (zero). |

In Response to IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: [I do not even play Cryptogram any more as the scores indicate that some combination of keystrokes can disable the timer. Hence, the high scores mean nothing at all! It's like playing any computer game with cheat codes. You can always win, but what does it really mean? Now, it's a whole group of folks who daily solve the cryptograms in just a few seconds. I guess they discovered the magic buttons to push. It's ridiculous! Also, there are other games where the all-time high scores are in the hundreds of millions. Huh???? I would urge AARP to go back to the software vendor and see if the problems can be rectified. |

Posted by Pajarito I just got on aarp's game site-my game is backgammon but the reason I am responding to you is damn woman you look too young to be a member of AARP! I need to get a photo up but my nephew just hooked me up with this new computer and the rest, printer, scanner ets. are on their way soon.I've had only one problem so far and I was able to get it corrected but reading other posts u r not the only person who cannot see the print. Backgammon doesn't have any so I do alright but still have to wear my "reading" glasses! I want to play other people, instead of the computer, and can't seem to get an answer if that is possible but I'll keep asking questions until I get it all figured out. Have a good one and feel free to write back anytime-anyone! Nite y'all! attaway58. |
